Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

The air felt thick with tension, like the calm before a storm. Elaina stood in the heart of the estate's garden, her fingers brushing the cold stone of the ancient fountain. She had never felt so alive, and yet so lost at the same time.

Her blood hummed with energy, the magic inside her growing, awakening. It was as if the flames that had always been hidden deep inside her were now stretching, reaching for something—someone.

"Lucien…" she whispered to the wind.

He appeared in an instant, standing behind her like a shadow made flesh. "You called?"

Her heart fluttered in her chest, but she didn't turn to face him yet. "Do you ever wonder why we're connected this way? Why I feel like I'm being pulled toward something... or someone?"

Lucien's voice was low, his presence so close it made her skin tingle. "I know why, Elaina. It's because you're more than you think you are. You're not just a wolf. You're a fire born from ashes. Your power... it calls to me. It always has."

She turned then, meeting his eyes. Those golden depths were full of something unreadable, something that made her heart ache with longing. "But why does it feel so wrong?"

Lucien reached for her hand, his touch burning, though gentle. "Because the truth is dangerous. And the truth is—there's a fire inside of you, Elaina, that even I can't control. But I'll never leave you to face it alone."

A sudden, high-pitched scream pierced the night, and both of them turned in unison, their senses sharpening.

---

In the Distance

The screams echoed again, louder this time, and they could feel the magic pulsing from the woods.

"It's happening," Lucien growled, pulling her toward the estate's entrance.

Kade was already there, his face grim. "I knew it wouldn't be long before Valen made his move."

"He's here?" Elaina asked, her pulse racing.

Lucien nodded, the air around him crackling with the intensity of his power. "And he's not alone."

---

The Forest Edge

They didn't have to go far. The edge of the forest was alive with shadows, unnatural shapes moving in the moonlight. Elaina's breath hitched as she stepped forward, the power inside her surging.

"There's something here," she whispered, looking down at her palm. Her skin was glowing with an eerie golden light, the flames inside her restless.

"You have to stay focused," Lucien said, his voice urgent. "Valen's magic will try to drown you in it. Don't let it."

Elaina closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, trying to center herself. The power—her power—felt like it was thrumming beneath her skin, ready to explode. She could hear it now—the whisper of ancient fire in her blood, calling her to burn.

Just then, a dark figure stepped from the trees.

Valen.

---

Confrontation

"You've finally come," Lucien said, stepping forward. His voice was a low, dangerous growl.

Valen smirked, his eyes glowing a deep, unsettling red. "I wasn't going to wait forever, Alpha. Elaina belongs with me."

Elaina felt a shiver crawl down her spine. The dark magic in Valen's presence was suffocating, like a black fog pressing in on her lungs.

"No," she said, her voice trembling, though she fought to make it strong. "I don't belong to you."

Valen's smile only grew. "You think you can resist the pull? You think you can resist me?"

He took a step toward her, and before anyone could react, the ground beneath them cracked, fiery tendrils of power shooting upward.

"Stop!" Elaina screamed, her voice raw with power.

The fire within her flared to life, swirling around her, an uncontrollable force.

Lucien grabbed her arm. "Elaina, no!"

But it was too late. Her magic exploded outward, the flames roaring to life, engulfing everything in their path.

Valen roared in pain as the fire burned around him, but his laughter echoed in the chaos.

"You'll burn, Elaina. You'll burn for me."

Back at the Estate

Daisy and Kade were in the main hall, listening to the chaos outside. "I have to admit, this has gotten a little... dramatic," Kade said.

Daisy frowned. "I'm not laughing anymore."

---

In the Heart of the Forest

The flames died down, leaving behind scorched earth and an eerie silence. Elaina collapsed to her knees, breathing heavily, exhausted from the battle of wills.

Lucien was at her side in an instant, his hand on her back, grounding her.

"You did it," he whispered, his voice thick with admiration. "You held it back."

She looked up at him, her eyes filled with tears. "But I couldn't stop it. I couldn't stop him."

Lucien cupped her face, his thumb brushing away the tears. "You don't have to stop him alone. I'll fight with you, Elaina. I'll burn the world down if it means keeping you safe."

The night was still and suffocating, heavy with the aftermath of their battle. Elaina felt the exhaustion in her bones as the adrenaline faded, leaving behind only the dull ache of her magic retreating into the depths of her being.

Lucien remained by her side, his presence like a constant force, protecting her without a word. He hadn't left her since the moment the flames had dissipated.

"I'm sorry," she whispered, her voice hoarse. "I didn't mean for it to get so out of control."

Lucien shook his head, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "It wasn't your fault. You're stronger than you know, Elaina."

Her heart pounded, but this time it was different. It wasn't fear—it was something else. Something deeper. She could feel the bond between them growing, pulsing with every word, every touch.

"I can feel it, Lucien," she admitted, her voice trembling. "This power inside me. It's terrifying."

"I know," he replied softly. "But you're not alone in this. I'll make sure of that."

She met his eyes, her breath catching in her throat. There was a raw intensity in his gaze, something that spoke of battles fought and losses endured. But there was also something else—something tender.

Before she could say anything more, Kade appeared, his eyes wide with urgency. "You both need to come inside. Valen is preparing something… something that could destroy us all."

---

In the Estate

The air inside the estate was tense, the staff whispering in hushed voices as they moved about, preparing for the storm that was coming. Elaina could feel the shift in the atmosphere—the magic was thick, heavy with foreboding.

Daisy was already at the large, round table in the war room when they entered. She looked up, concern etching her features. "What happened out there?"

"We stopped him," Elaina replied, though there was doubt in her voice. "But only for now. Valen's planning something worse."

Lucien moved to the map on the wall, his fingers tracing the edges of the kingdom. "He's gathering an army. He won't stop until he's got everything he wants, including Elaina."

Elaina swallowed hard. "I won't let him take me. I won't be his pawn."

Kade's voice was low, almost too calm. "We'll need more than just magic to stop him. If we're going to fight this, we need a plan."

---

A Moment Alone

Later that night, as the estate grew silent, Elaina found herself standing by the window in her room, staring out into the dark. The weight of everything—of Valen, of her power, of Lucien—was too much to bear.

She didn't hear him enter until he was standing beside her.

"You're thinking too much," Lucien said, his voice soft.

"I have to think. I'm not just fighting for myself anymore," Elaina whispered. "I'm fighting for all of us."

Lucien placed his hand on her shoulder, his touch gentle yet firm. "I know. But you don't have to carry this alone. I'm here, Elaina. We're in this together."

She turned to face him, her heart pounding as she looked into his eyes. There was so much she wanted to say, so much she wanted to ask, but in this moment, the only thing that mattered was the way he was looking at her—the way he was holding her gaze like she was the only thing that mattered.

"Elaina," Lucien murmured, his hand moving to cup her face, his thumb brushing across her cheek. "I won't let anything happen to you. I swear it."

And in that moment, Elaina knew he meant it.

Before she could respond, there was a knock at the door, and Daisy stepped inside, her face pale with worry. "You need to come downstairs. There's been a development."

---

The War Room

They gathered around the table once more, and this time, the tension was palpable. Daisy's hand shook slightly as she placed a scroll on the table, her eyes wide with fear.

"This came from one of Valen's spies," she said, her voice trembling. "He's planning to attack at dawn."

Elaina's stomach twisted. "We won't be ready in time."

Lucien met her gaze, his expression unwavering. "We don't have a choice. We fight now or we lose everything."

"We'll need to gather everyone," Kade said, his voice steady. "The entire pack."

---

The Night Before the Battle

Later, when the house was quiet again, Elaina stood in front of the mirror in her room, staring at her reflection. Her thoughts raced as she prepared herself for the battle ahead. There was no turning back now.

The door opened behind her, and Lucien stepped in, his eyes locked on her.

"Elaina," he said, his voice quiet, almost hesitant. "I know you don't want to hear this, but you need to be ready. Tomorrow is going to change everything."

"I'm ready," she replied, her voice firm. "I've always been ready."

He approached her slowly, his gaze never leaving hers. "I need you to know something. No matter what happens tomorrow, I won't leave you. You're my pack. You always have been."

Her heart clenched, her breath caught in her throat as she turned to face him. "And you're mine."

Before either of them could say more, the sound of distant howling reached their ears, long and mournful.

"It's starting," Lucien said, his voice low.

Elaina nodded, her heart pounding. "Then let's end it."
