Chapter 3

He pressed a hand to his chest, feeling for his heartbeat, for proof that he was still here. ALIVE

He heard a voice. A low urgent voice coming through the woods

"FIND HIM. HE SHOULD HAVE GONE THIS WAY"

The words cut through trees and bushes like a sharp blade. Adam skipped a beat; his heart was pounding so hard it felt ready to burst. He went slowly and hid behind a moss-covered tree trunk. Sweat and blood dripping into his eyes.

There were two men with a sharp blade coming toward him.

First men came closer. His knife shone in the jungle's faint light. Adams's hand gripped a rough stone, His sharp edges cutting his skin. Everything slowed. His heart was pounding loudly in his chest.

He threw the stone.

SMACK! It hit the man's head. Cracking his skull. Blood sprayed everywhere—red droplets in the air. The killer's legs gave out. Adam jumped on him screaming and crushing his head with a stone The skull broke, splitting like a rotten melon. Blood and brain sprayed.

The second man stood still, face white with fear. "You're..... a mon...monster!" he shouted. Tripping backwards, shoes sliding in the mud

Adam's breath was heavy, but his eyes were burning in the anger. He pulled a knife from the dead. He stepped closer, each step slow and deadly.

"Get Back!" the man shouted, voice shaking. Sweat dripped down his face. His hands trembling, dropping his knife.

Adam held the knife tight. The jungle went silent. No birds no breeze, just his heartbeat thumping. Swings knife in the air. He starts to charge towards him.

Adam moved fast towards him. STAB! His knife sank into the man's side, cutting deep. Blood poured out, hot and wet, covering Adam's hand. The man screamed, grabbing at his side, fingers slipping in blood.

Adam picked a giant stong and threw it on his chest —CRACK!— bones snapping.

The man crawled back, dragging himself through the mud. " Please....don't" he cried, tears mixing with blood.

Adam rushed forward, knife flashing. STAB!

THE KILLER TWITCHED, GUGLED, THEN STOP MOVING.

His eyes stared at the sky. empty

 

Adams's resolve broke. He collapsed forward, sobs tearing through him, crying for hours.

Adam fell to his knees. The weight of eight years pressed on him-grief, rage, confusion… and a fragile thread of hope.
