Chapter 10 - THE TEXT MESSAGE

He parked in front of my house. The ignition was still running. I pretended I was still asleep because at that moment, I did not want to face him.

"I know you are awake." he muttered. He sounded really melancholic.

I opened my eyes and looked at him. He was looking forward.

"This is your destination, please get down."

I didn't react. I just stared at him, confused. What's with the coldness all of a sudden? Honestly, I wanted to ask him why he did that to me but I too was at loss for words. So, respectfully, I got down and shut the car door. He reversed and drove off.

I watched his car disappear. I huffed. Is he running away from me now? I never said I didn't like it. I just didn't want him to touch me.

I dipped my hand in my pocket and took out my phone. Scrolled to the message section and under his name, texted.

*Thanks for the ride. I particularly enjoyed the last minute. Drive home safely. You can be quite intense. I don't even know you too well nor do you know me, and yet you fancy me this much. I'm flattered but regardless, you harassed me. I think your goodwill should end here. You don't look like a bad guy; Let's meet again on better terms.*

I re-read the message.

'Looks savage to me. I won't send it. I will just delete it'

I highlighted the text and went for the 'delete button'

*ruff* *ruff* *ruff* *ruff*

…barking dogs…

I spuned but I wasn't fast enough; the two dogs literally crashed into me, running me over. I fell. Myphone flew up in the air and came down; I sprang up immediately, throwing myself to the left. I caught it.

"Oh thank God."

A few young men ran past me while I was savoring in the fact that my phone didn't break. One of those men stopped in front of me. I looked up , he stretched out his hand. I took it and he helped me off the ground.

"I'm sorry about the dogs." he bowed and left hurriedly.

I watched him leave, muttering to myself. "Tsk, can't you keep your dogs on a leash."

Pissed, I returned my gaze to the cellphone screen; there was a reply from the chief, It read "I am really sorry."

'Huh. Is he apologizing now after rudely sending me out of his car? Pretty cheek for a man'. I scrolled upward on his chat and saw a previously sent message from me.

'That's odd, I don't remember sending…Unholy SHIT!!! It sent… it sent. Oh damn those stupid dogs'.

"Uhhh!!" I screamed into the night.

'How much bad luck can a person really have?'

I turned angrily and stormed into my house. Mumbling to myself about the disappointing day as I pulled out my house key from the rose bush beside the stairs leading up to the main door. Then I went for the entrance, unlocked it and went in.

Unsurprisingly, it was clean. There was food on the table, hot steam oozing from it. I sat down on the couch, waiting patiently for my expected visitor.

"Your house is beautiful but why did you keep it so untidy? I had to scrub it for a whole day."

"I didn't ask you to." I said, not looking her way.

"True." she replied, navigating to sit opposite me.

"Gabrielle, is my name. I'm your equipment manager. I brought some goodies with me but before we look through them, let's eat."

"I'm not interested in the food. My flight leaves at 1 am. I need them now. And you have to leave too because my chief will be back here to return my suitcase in his car."

"Tsk, you are no fun at all."

She rose from the chair and walked out of the sitting room, returning later with a guitar case. She opened it up and turned it over to my side.

"New ID, an untraceable revolver, an encrypted cell phone and the address of an ant keeper like you requested. Oh and also," she took out a card from her pocket. "An inexhaustible credit card. Go rid the world of some nuisance." she whispered.

"Gladly."

Gabrielle covered up the takeout on the table and left my house with it. I looked up at the clock on the walk, 11pm. It's time to get ready to go.

…Louisiana, USA…

…8PM…

I went up to the counter and dropped my credit card. I wanted a room. The man at the counter began to press the buttons of his computer.

"ID please."

I took out my ID and gave it to him. He typed in some words and returned them to me.

"How many days are you staying?"

"Pretty long. Just take it out of my credit card when I leave."

"Alright." he took my credit card and gave me my room card.

"Thank you for lodging with us, do enjoy your stay here.'

I took the card from him and walked away. My room was the hundred and twenty fifth. So I took the elevator and went to the 25th floor. My room was somewhat at the extreme, which was good because I really needed no disturbance. I slotted my key into the scanner and the door opened. I stepped in, shutting it behind me.

Calmly, I glided in the room. My first thought the instant I beheld it was;

'Wow, this is beautiful'

This was my first time coming into a place like this so It took me a while to take in everything with starry eyes. My gaze went to the big bed at the left end of the room, a wardrobe on the left side of the bed with a standing mirror on it and a stool in front. There you could keep your makeup up and jewelry. It was positioned at the right side of the bed.

On the right side of the room were a round table and two 'C' curved cushions standing face to face behind the table. The furniture did not go all the way to the end, so there was plenty of space to stand and watch the city from the inverted glass. As for the toilet and bathroom; there was a door which directly faced the entrance I came in from. The door lead to a combined bathroom with both, toilet, shower and tub.

"Waa!"

I exclaimed. This looks like a suite. I wonder what an actual suite would look like. I dropped my bag on the bed, took off my shoes and changed into night wears. I didn't wipe off my makeup or take off my disguise. The many years of working as an undercover agent had taught me that there were eyes everywhere.

I unpacked my bag, brought out my laptop and kept it on the table, pulled the stool close to me, switched on my laptop and scrolled to files. There was no time left. I needed to start preparing for the KILL.
