Sola was surprised by that answer. He thought she would be mad and butthurt about losing, especially after he spat his blood on her face, but she was excited about the way he fought.
They then went to medics who had marks of nature and had healing abilities.
After they were healed a bit, both of them lay on a bed, resting
Using the mark was very exhausting.
Both of them were quiet for a bit, but then the silence was broken by her.
"When you awakened your mark, I sensed nothing coming from your stomach."
She paused for a second and asked.
"Is the moon on your body just a tattoo?"
Sola told her that the tattoo on his body was a mark, but he didn't know why she couldn't sense the strength coming from it.
While they were talking in the nurse's office, Beth was talking to other students in the sparring room.
She was both pleased and surprised that both fighters had awakened their marks this easily. Before choosing more students to fight, she spoke to the group, explaining the importance of using everything at their disposal in battle. As an example, she mentioned Sola, explaining that even though he had been much weaker than his opponent, he won because he used everything he could and relied on his wits instead of strength. It was his determination to win that gave him the advantage.
A couple of hours had passed. Freide was still standing tall, full of energy, while Sola was struggling to gather his strength. He felt weak, and he knew why.
It was because of his curse.
He was drained of his life essence, even though Sola wounded Freide, it seems that it was not enough.
After a bit, he got up and started walking to his room.
After turning left into the hallway, he saw two boys whom he recognized from the fighting class.
One of them was Edric.
When he got close to them, he heard what they were talking about.
"Now that I think about it, you mentioned that you got a remnant. Is it a weapon?"
The other guy asked Edrich, his tone was threatening, he was about the same size as him and physically didn't seem much stronger than him either, he had black hair and very pale skin.
"No, it is a tool."
Said Edrich, he seemed annoyed by the guy.
"Really? Did you hear that you can give someone your remanent?"
The pale guy grabbed something out of his pocket, and right as he was about to get it out of the pocket, he saw Sola and stopped.
"What kind of tool did you get, Edric?"
Sola asked him as he was getting close to them.
"It's a magical bracelet."
Edric answered.
"Oh really? Why don't you give it to me? Maybe I'll find a better use for it."
Sola said while he winked his left eye so the other guy could not see.
Edric nodded, summoned his bracelet, and gave it to Sola, and after a few seconds, he mumbled.
"Yes, I wish to transfer the memory."
And dismissed the weapon, giving the illusion that he gave it to Sola.
A few seconds later, Sola turned around to the other guy and asked:
"What's your name again?"
He looked at Sola dead in the eyes.
"I am Jean."
"Well then, Jean, if you want this remnant, come to me next time."
Sola patted him on the shoulder as he said that, then gestured for Edric to follow him and started walking towards the cafeteria.
Jean was frozen in place with an angry but confused expression on his face.
"Thanks, I owe you one."
He said while smiling at Sola gratefully.
Before they arrived in the cafeteria, he asked for a little favor.
Sola wanted Edric to find out if there was any chance he could get a job or be an apprentice here in the academy, which would involve killing animals; he wanted to work as a butcher.
Edric was surprised and didn't understand why he would want to do that, but he agreed.
After he ate with Edri,c Sola decided to skip the therapy appointment and went to his room as he was feeling tired.
If this went on, he would be dead in a couple of days, even earlier if he continued to use his strength.
So, he decided to stay in his room all day and save his energy until he got an answer from Edric.
And he got, on the next day, in the cafeteria, Edric told him that they were looking for someone who could help them with basic stuff.
Wasting no time, he skipped the fighting class and talked to the working staff that he wanted to work there in his free time for no pay, which they agreed to, and he started working right away. He barely knew how to cook, we were washing dishes and cleaning stuff.
After most of the chores were done, he was in the bathroom of the kitchen, looking at himself in the mirror.
His eyes were devoid of any emotion; he was tired, and it felt like his will to exist was disappearing bit by bit.
He didn't get the chance to slaughter any animals today, but he noticed that the academy had a large farm filled with chickens, pigs, and cows, which they raised and killed for food.
At night, he heard a knock on his door.
It was Edric.
He came to check on him because he didn't look quite well. He also mentioned Jean, the guy who tried to take the remnant from him, it turned out that he was stealing remnants of other students by threatening to kill them.
He had a power that could instill fear in anyone he chose, and even if they were stronger than he, his ability would still make them afraid of him.
"So, you have an ability that makes you fearless?"
Said Edrich with a smile.
"Yes, and I am also fast and flexible."
As far as Edric knew, no one in here had two essences, so he was surprised to hear that, but he didn't show his excitement because Sola had a dead expression on his face.
After some talking, he excused himself, and before closing the door, he said:
"If you ever need help, you know where my room is. I don't mind if you wake me up in the middle of the night, it would only be fair."
Before going to bed, he opened the letter he had been dying to read since he received it, as soon as Edrich entered the room. It was supposed to be an answer about his family.
