Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Matter of Fate

Accompanied by Xun'er's words, the ring that appeared before Chen Mo's eyes was undeniably strange beyond measure.

The silver band was split, with one side red and the other black, and in the center, a green needle hovered—resembling a miniature instrument.

Before Chen Mo could say anything, little Xun'er proudly raised the ring and said, "This was a gift from Grandpa to Xun'er. He said it can measure a person's fortune!"

"Really?" Chen Mo was skeptical but still placed the odd ring on his finger. Almost immediately, the green needle began to slowly move, shifting a few millimeters toward the black side.

Little Xun'er, propping her chin, patiently explained, "Grandpa said the black side represents bad luck, so you must be cautious when going out!"

"So, that means if I use my abilities…" Chen Mo pondered, focusing a small amount of azure energy and pointing it at the spoon on the table.

The moment the azure energy touched the spoon, it suddenly began to roll. At the same time, the needle moved slightly toward the black side again.

"Just as I thought!" Chen Mo smiled bitterly as he confirmed his suspicion.

However, at that very moment, Jady suddenly stopped him from removing the ring and thoughtfully said, "Mo, try again, but this time bring the shard of jade you just acquired!"

"Uh, that'll only make me luckier, right?" Chen Mo sighed helplessly but still grasped the shard of jade in his palm, activating the azure energy once again.

But the next moment, his expression changed slightly as an odd phenomenon occurred—this time, despite using the same azure energy and aiming it at the wine bottle, the needle only swayed slightly, much less than before.

"I understand now!" Chen Mo exclaimed, and just then, Jady flashed a smile, "The more jade shards you acquire, the weaker the effect of bad luck becomes… In other words, if you gather enough shards, eventually, your misfortune will be suppressed!"

"Then, at that point, I'll be able to use my abilities freely?" Chen Mo stood still, suddenly feeling that his future prospects were shining brightly.

This was, of course, a good thing—having a golden opportunity but not being able to use it was one of the most frustrating things. While he didn't expect to conquer the world with this power, it would at least improve his life!

"Exactly! Though I don't fully understand why this happens, the truth is just as I've said!" Jady nodded, seemingly more content than when she had gained her own abilities.

"Of course, gathering these jade shards is no easy task." But then, she frowned slightly and added, "There are very few clues, and many people want the shards. It'll require a significant amount of time and effort."

"But, Boss can at least sense the shards, which is a huge advantage!" Guo Guo paused and chimed in, "And who cares if people try to snatch them from us? We can just team up and beat them down. There's no way they'll get away!"

"Beat them down? Leave that to me! I like this kind of thing!" Since assuming the position of brick-wielder, Ben Ben had grown fond of the role and eagerly volunteered.

Che Che, nodding in agreement, started his habitual show-off, "Exactly! Boss, with me around... Back in the day, they called me 'the one who could slay a thousand'!"

"Actually, it was more like you were slain by a thousand…" No No interrupted, completely oblivious to the situation, triggering a burst of fury from Che Che.

Without a doubt, this sparked yet another round of chaotic bickering as the four appliances clattered to the corner of the room.

Meanwhile, Xun'er had finished her last ice cream and cheerfully raised her hand, "And I'm in! I can help Daddy beat people, just like swatting flies!"

"Swat flies? How is that the same thing?" Chen Mo scratched his chin in exasperation, offering a resigned smile.

But on second thought, he had made up his mind—since he had already found the second shard of jade, there was no doubt he would find the third, the fourth… In any case, for the sake of a house, a car, a wife, and children, he would try no matter what!

With that thought, his optimism returned, and a faint smile spread across his face.

Jady glanced out the window at the night sky and softly said, "Alright, it's getting late. I think tonight, Xun'er will stay with me…"

"No! I want to sleep with Daddy!" Before she finished speaking, little Xun'er puffed up her chest in anger and immediately performed her signature eight-tentacled bind attack.

Without question, this technique had been mastered to perfection, and despite Chen Mo's efforts, he once again failed to break free.

A few minutes later, seeing Xun'er's teary eyes, he reluctantly surrendered, "Fine! But if you wet the bed in the middle of the night, I'm not responsible!"

"Victory!" With Xun'er's jubilant cheer, the matter was settled.

Since Ye Rong was still unconscious on the second floor, Chen Mo decided not to return home but instead set up a makeshift bed in the lobby.

However, when he saw the broken wall outside, he felt a twinge of concern—though the illusion spell was in place now, if Ye Rong saw it tomorrow, her temper would likely flare up again.

"That's easy!" Jady, about to leave, smiled faintly and snapped her fingers.

The stern-looking housekeeper, Sanya, immediately appeared and bowed, "Miss, what are your orders?"

"Get someone to repair this wall overnight!" Jady gave the order casually but then added, "Money is no object. The key is to do it quickly and quietly! If you finish in less than six hours, I'll give you an extra ten thousand!"

"Understood!" Clearly accustomed to Jady's lavish spending, the housekeeper responded without hesitation.

"Also, send someone to buy the best toys, clothes, snacks, and books…" Just before she turned to leave, Jady glanced at Xun'er and suddenly spoke, "Before Xun'er wakes up tomorrow morning, I want to see this place filled with every children's product available in the city!"

"Victory!" Upon hearing this command, Xun'er, who had just changed into her pajamas, immediately cheered.

Chen Mo shook his head with a rueful smile, thinking to himself that even the richest man in South City wouldn't spend money to this extent.

With that thought, he accompanied Jady to the door but couldn't help asking, "Jady, you seem to really like Xun'er. Are you really planning to adopt her?"

"If you, as her father, agree, I have no objections!" Jady gave him a rare mischievous smile, but in Chen Mo's resigned gaze, her expression suddenly softened.

For a moment, she fell into a quiet sadness, then sighed softly, "Mo, you know, I lost my parents when I was very young… When I look at Xun'er, I can't help but think of that time in my life…"

Chen Mo knew this story all too well—born with a golden key, Jady could have lived a carefree life, but when she was three years old, her parents abruptly sent her to a temple to be raised by the high priest.

To a three-year-old child, this was an incredibly cruel act, and no matter how much Jady cried or pleaded, her cold-hearted parents never relented.

As a result, Jady fell into a spiral of self-doubt and isolation. Soon after, with her parents dying in a car accident, her condition worsened, reaching the peak of her autism.

She refused to communicate, shunned social activities, and rejected making friends… This state lasted for a long time until a strange phone call came.

It was undeniable that very few could resist No No's silver tongue, so even the stoic Jady gradually began to open up.

Years later, she finally shared the trauma of her childhood, and coincidentally, it was Chen Mo who answered the phone.

After hearing Jady's story, Chen Mo suggested that she confront the past, perhaps investigate the real reason her parents sent her to the temple, as the car accident seemed too coincidental.

The final outcome confirmed Chen Mo's suspicions—Jady found secret letters left by her parents, which mentioned a powerful force pursuing them, and they had sent her to the temple for protection out of fear for her safety.

Moreover, Jady inherited a massive inheritance, and as her parents had written in the letter—"We can no longer protect you, so let our wealth protect you."

"No wonder you enjoy spending money so much!" Hearing this, Chen Mo muttered to himself, though he put on a sympathetic expression.

Jady didn't elaborate further, but before she left, she kissed him gently on the cheek, then smiled and turned away, "Well then, goodnight. And take care of our daughter!"

"Oh… wait, what do you mean, 'our daughter'?" Chen Mo protested, shaking his fist, but Jady had already vanished into the night with a playful laugh.

No No jumped out of his pocket and muttered softly, "Boss, I think Jady is becoming more like a normal person now. It's all my doing, isn't it?"

"Get lost! She's always been normal!" Chen Mo grumbled, shoving No No back into his pocket, though he couldn't help but agree—lately, Jady had indeed become much more human.

Shrugging, he turned to head back into the lobby, only to be
