The night had fallen silent after Giovanni's departure, but the stillness in the air only served to intensify the uncertainty that hung between them. Aria stood there, her body still buzzing with adrenaline from the encounter. She had expected fear, even terror, but what she felt now was something different. A strange kind of numbness, as if her body had shut down to protect her from the shock.
Raiden had stepped back, his eyes never leaving her, his stance still tense. He hadn't moved far, as if afraid that the danger hadn't truly passed yet. He was trying to keep his distance, but she could feel the magnetic pull between them — a force neither of them could deny.
"Are you okay?" Raiden asked again, his voice soft, as if testing the waters. His usual cold demeanor had melted away in the face of the danger they had just faced, and for the first time, Aria saw the vulnerability behind the impenetrable walls he had built around himself.
Aria nodded, her throat tight. "I will be. It's just... I didn't expect him to show up like that."
Raiden's lips pressed into a thin line, his jaw clenching in thought. "Giovanni is dangerous. He won't stop. But I'll make sure you're protected." His voice had shifted — the protective tone taking on a darker, more commanding edge. "We need to move, Aria. This place isn't safe anymore."
For a moment, she simply stood there, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. She had come so far from the girl who was scared to speak up, scared to fight back. But now... the weight of the reality they were living in hit her all over again. Giovanni wasn't just a man from her past. He was a symbol of everything she had tried to outrun. And now, he was here — in her life, in her world, again.
But she wouldn't let him take that power from her again.
"I'm not running," she said quietly, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside. "I've already lost too much to keep running. I'm going to fight."
Raiden's eyes softened at her words. His face, usually an impassive mask of control, seemed to soften, just for a moment. He stepped closer, his presence a reassuring weight at her back. "Then we fight, together."
The words hung in the air between them, a promise that neither of them had fully understood until now. Aria didn't know what came next — what they would have to face — but she knew she couldn't do it alone. Not anymore.
"I'll help you," Raiden said, his voice raw with sincerity. "But you need to trust me. I need to protect you, Aria. You don't know what you're up against. Giovanni... he's not just a man. He's a force."
Aria swallowed hard, her throat dry, but she nodded. She didn't have the luxury of fear anymore. She couldn't let Giovanni hold her hostage in her own mind.
Raiden reached out then, gently cupping her face with his hand. His touch was firm, but there was an almost tender quality to it — like he was trying to ground her in the chaos. His thumb brushed over her cheek, the skin there cold from the night air, but his touch was warm. Comforting.
"Do you trust me?" Raiden asked, his eyes searching hers, his voice low and steady.
For a heartbeat, Aria couldn't speak. Couldn't find the right words to explain what she was feeling. Her world had shifted on its axis tonight. She had never expected Giovanni to show up, to force her to confront her past in the most violent way possible. But now, standing here with Raiden, she realized that maybe — just maybe — she didn't have to face it alone.
"I do," she whispered, the words slipping out before she could stop them.
Raiden's gaze softened at her answer. He didn't say anything more. Instead, he simply took a step back and turned to the door. "Let's go."
The night was thick with silence as they left the apartment behind. Raiden led her through the darkened streets, his presence like a shield against the world. His movements were smooth, calculated, but there was an edge to him — a quiet fury that simmered just beneath the surface. Aria could feel it in the way he held himself, the way he kept glancing over his shoulder as if expecting danger to spring from every shadow.
And maybe it would.
They drove for what felt like hours, the streets blurred by the headlights as the city around them seemed to vanish into the night. Aria had no idea where they were headed, but she trusted Raiden to know what to do next. To know where to take her, to keep her safe. Her thoughts kept drifting back to Giovanni — to the venom in his eyes, the promise of more violence, more destruction. But this time, she wouldn't be a passive observer. She wouldn't let Giovanni destroy her life again.
Raiden finally pulled into an underground garage, the sound of the engine dying as the car came to a halt. He turned to her, his face lit only by the dim glow of the dashboard. "We'll stay here for now. It's secure."
Aria nodded, though her mind was racing. "And Giovanni?"
Raiden's jaw tightened. "Giovanni is a problem, but it's a problem I can handle. You need to rest. You've been through enough tonight."
She opened her mouth to argue, to insist that they couldn't afford to slow down, but the exhaustion in her bones stopped her. She was running on pure adrenaline, but it wasn't enough. She had to rest. She had to think.
Raiden was already stepping out of the car, his eyes scanning their surroundings as he moved toward the entrance of the building. "I'll make sure the place is safe. You stay here. Lock the doors. Don't open it for anyone."
Aria nodded, the weight of his command settling over her. She was still reeling from everything that had happened, but she knew that Raiden was right. She had to be smart. Had to be strategic.
As the minutes passed, the stillness of the garage pressed in on her, and she found herself alone with her thoughts. Alone with the fear, the anger, and the realization that Giovanni was never truly gone. And neither was the danger.
The storm was far from over. It was only just beginning.
