Later that evening, Adam found his
girlfriend by the edge of the terrace, staring
out at the ocean. She was still angry, but
there was a flicker of hurt in her eyes
"Babe.." he started, voice low. "Look, I never
meant for it to be like this. It's not what you
think."
She crossed her arms, clearly not in the
mood. "Then what is it, Adam? First, she's
all 'we're just best friends'-then 1 show up
and see you both like.. that."
He sighed, stepping closer to her. "I know
Fiona's...she's complicated. She knows how
to mess with people. But, trust me, it's all
part of her twisted sense of humor. She's
not in love with me. She was just trying to
make them jealous. And you
Her face softened just a little. "So you
weren't feeding her strawberries because
you like her?"
Adam shook his head, trying not to laugh at
the absurdity of it. "No, babe. She's my best
friend. And yeah, we might've gotten a little
too carried away in the moment, but..it's
not like that. Ever."
The girlfriend stood in silence for a
moment, processing. "I don't like this. I don't
like her. And I don't like you both looking
like that."
Adam took a deep breath, stepping forward.
"I understand. And I'm sorry if it hurt you
But I won't let her tear us apart."
