Chapter 65 - Chapter 66: The Awakening

The sun rose on the Academy's Great Awakening Day, a momentous occasion where every student at the age of 17 would awaken their unique systems. It was a day of celebration, but also a day of anxiety, for the powers each student would gain could define their entire future.

The students gathered in the central courtyard, a massive open space with high columns and crystal-clear water pools. The sky was a deep blue, clouds drifting lazily by. A hushed silence fell over the crowd as the Awakening Ceremony began.

"First, we shall begin with the Hero of Light, Arin Veyla," the headmaster announced. His voice echoed across the courtyard, and the crowd parted to reveal Arin standing tall, her golden hair gleaming under the sun.

Arin stepped forward, feeling the weight of the world upon her. She was the symbol of hope, the descendant of the first savior, and today, she would unlock the power that had been destined for her.

As she raised her hand, a celestial light erupted from her body. The Celestial Vow, her Heroic System, surged to life, wrapping her in a golden aura.

"I… I feel it," Arin whispered, her voice soft but strong. "The power to protect, to defend… I can feel the weight of every life resting in my hands."

Her eyes glowed with power as she tested her new abilities. A brilliant shield formed around her, sparkling like sunlight reflecting off water. She raised her hand, and a wave of healing light spread across the courtyard, restoring the plants and trees around her.

The crowd gasped in awe, their voices rising in admiration.

"Arin… you are the light we have all dreamed of," her father, Lord Varian Veyla, said proudly, his voice echoing through the courtyard.

But as the applause thundered, Kai stood in the shadows, his heart pounding. The Abyssal Rebirth, his system, had awakened too — but it had come with a cost.

He felt it within him — the dark power surging, twisting. His hand shook as he summoned his abilities. Black tendrils of shadow swirled around him, thickening the air. The darkness felt cold, suffocating.

"Kai Nox," the headmaster called out, his tone mixed with caution and curiosity. "Please come forward."

The crowd parted for him, and he walked forward, head held low. His Abyssal sigil burned on his palm, its dark energy making the air heavy with tension.

As soon as he stepped into the center, the Abyssal Rebirth surged, and dark energy engulfed him. His body trembled as his system began to copy the power of those around him. Faint whispers of others' abilities filled his mind.

But the cost was immediate. The power drained his life force, taking bits of his humanity with each copy. His chest tightened, but he refused to show weakness.

"What is this?" someone whispered from the crowd. "A demon? He's copying dark powers!"

Arin watched in silence. She could feel the weight of the darkness Kai carried. Their destinies were tied, yet she was the light, and he was the shadow.
