Chapter 69 - Chapter 70: Shifting Allegiances

The morning after the training conflict, the Academy held a meeting to discuss the growing divisions among students.

It was no secret that tensions were at an all-time high. The heroes had formed their alliances, while the outsiders, like Kai, were left to fend for themselves.

In the grand Academy Hall, the air was thick with the weight of expectation.

"We cannot allow this division to continue," the headmaster, Professor Jalen, said, standing before the assembly. "We must unite the students. They must work together to protect the world, not destroy it."

Arin, seated at the front, felt the weight of her family's legacy pressing on her again. Her Celestial Vow system pulsed with energy, but it was no longer just about her ability to fight. Now, it was about leadership. She had to make difficult decisions.

Across from her, Kai stood in silence, his gaze distant. The power of the Abyssal Rebirth was growing stronger within him, and he could feel his grip on reality slipping. The temptation to let it consume him was overwhelming.

"The Abyss will never be defeated if we don't work together," Professor Jalen continued, his eyes scanning the room. "And we must focus on this new generation of students."

The students murmured among themselves. There was fear in their voices.

"I think we're all afraid," Arin said suddenly, standing. "Afraid of the power we now possess. Afraid of the consequences."

She turned to face Kai, her golden eyes meeting his darkened gaze. "But we can't let fear control us. We must use our powers for good, not let them tear us apart."

Kai looked at her. He wanted to trust her. He wanted to believe that there was a way out of this curse. But every time he felt his Abyssal sigil surge, he knew that the darkness was always lurking just beneath the surface.

"You're right," Kai said quietly, his voice thick with the weight of his own internal battle. "But I can't promise I'll always be the hero you think I am. I can't promise I'll be the one to save you."

Arin's expression softened, but she nodded. "Then we'll fight together, Kai. No matter what."
