Chapter 16 - Light Formation

He was dreading the prospect just as much as he was looking forward to it. This shouldn't have been the case, but in his first Nightmare, his Aspect Ability was useless. What if this was the same? What if it was useless? Perhaps these shouldn't have been the thoughts plaguing his mind, since it was a Divine Aspect, but Day was still afraid. This would be his lifeline… his everything, from the moment he got into the Dream Realm to the moment he died. It wasn't fair for him to berate himself for being a little bit afraid thinking about what it may not be able to do.

He summoned his runes into existence and warily ran his eyes down them to look for the description he wanted. When he found it, his body tensed up involuntarily.

Aspect Abilities: [Light Formation.]

Aspect Ability Description: [The light that was hiding deep within your dormant soul can now be summoned into existence and used as a tool.]

Day raised his hand up in front of him and focused his sights on it.

"Alright… It's time. Hopefully this works…"

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. In his mind, he was repeating the phrase, "Come, Light."

When he opened his eyes… They didn't stop at just opening, and widened to the utmost.

"What the…"

His hand had undergone a profound change. It was gone, replaced by a white light in the same shape. His hand was bigger, having grown almost twofold.

He brought his hand closer to his face. His hand was radiating warmth, but no matter how close he brought his hand to his body, it didn't burn at all. He placed his palm on his cheek for a moment, basking in the warmth that didn't feel much different than being near his soul core.

'I don't want to get distracted for too long.'

Day took his hand off of his face, and as he did, the light surrounding his hand dissipated into sparks that floated up and promptly faded out of existence.

Just from doing it once, he already had a grasp of how to summon the light. He did it a few more times. He made his hand larger, then let it dissipate. He felt an odd sensation when he actually focused on his hand. Whenever he summoned the light, it felt like flexing a muscle. Each time he did it, it became easier, but no matter how much he tried, he couldn't make it seamless. It took about two seconds each time he summoned his light.

When he grew bored of only surrounding his hand, he decided to try to be more creative.

'I need to test the limits. Knowing something specific about my own ability could be the difference between life or death….'

He tried forming the light around his leg. It worked, but he learned something important quickly. He couldn't form a particularly sizable amount of light without backlash. He could increase the size of his leg twofold from the foot to the top of the thigh, but he couldn't cover both of his legs, or he started to feel dizzy. At a certain point, it began to feel outright painful. It was like he was overexerting his muscles trying to lift something thrice the limit of his strength.

He tried pushing himself, and was able to double the size of his entire left leg and his right foot, but he stopped after almost passing out.

Then, he moved onto shapes. He focused his sights on his hands and tried to form something besides the predetermined shape of his hand.

" Hmm… How about a sphere?"

He flipped his hand over palm up. This time, there was something drastically different in the process. Sparkles similar to the ones that previously floated up and faded out of existence began to flow out of his hand and slowly construct themselves into the simplistic shape of a sphere on his palm.

The process took a whopping ten seconds to complete, quintupling the amount of time it took to cover his hand.

"So I can cover my body seamlessly, but when it comes to making specific formations, it's a struggle?"

Day tried for a second time with the same shape, but the time it took didn't decrease. Whenever Day surrounded his body with his Aspect Ability, it felt like flexing a muscle, but whenever he tried to make a specific shape, it felt like he was straining his mind more than his body. So much so that he felt a migraine coming up.

He started to rub his head dejectedly, when suddenly, a thought sparked in his mind

"Perhaps I could train it…? Make it come out faster?"

That was what it felt like, just from doing it a few times.

'I should probably try to do that for the next few weeks… Possibly, I could just focus on making that sphere for a while, and see if it becomes any easier. Just this time, I think I'll try to make other shapes. Perhaps I can do something a little more difficult? I'll try a cube.'

He began to run through the intricacies of a cube in his mind. Each of the six faces. Every one of the twelve edges. He conjured the shape in his mind until it began to feel like a real object even in his mind, and then the light began to flow.

It started from a two dimensional square base. Slowly, over the next fifteen seconds, the cube built itself from nothing on his hand and formed into something tangible. To test the durability, he closed his hand on the cube and held it up. It held strong, no matter how much pressure he put on it.

'This Aspect Ability… It's re ally something special.'

Day took his attention off of the cube, and the light slowly deconstructed and floated away. Day watched it rise up and fade away with dreamy eyes and a smirk on his face.

"I wonder what else I can form? What if I… Try to take a bit of a leap here?"

He knew he could hold onto anything he formed, and that he had enough of this light double the size of one of his two legs entirely.

He closed his hand slightly, but not completely, and closed his eyes. He wanted to focus on this, and thought that submerging himself in darkness and calming himself would be the best way.

In his mind, the image of the Measly Sword appeared in his mind. The circular, bumpy grip that provided a near perfect hold. The guard, which went out an inch or two on both sides and curved up. The flat, straight, glistening blade; which was unable to shine under the influence of the veil of darkness. The sharp edges, and the tip that was ever sharper than even that.

After a few moments, the full image had been born in his mind, and then he felt it. There was something warm appearing in his hand.

Day opened his eyes.

A sword was slowly being formed from nothing. After thirty seconds, the guard had finished forming, with the same soft curves he remembered so well. Then, the blade began to form, and a minute later… It was finished.

A beautiful blade, conjured out of pure, white, radiant light originating from his soul.

He stared at the blade with awe in his eyes.

"Did I really create this? Wow… The Spell really blessed m-"

Suddenly, his knees folded and he dropped face first onto the hard floor.
