Chapter 1 - Threads of Destiny

2 Love a Villain was my favourite game. I just wish I could have prevented Altea's death. Just then, a blinding light filled my eyes. I looked around to find an unfamiliar environment. That truck should have killed me, so how am I alive?

Let's backtrack so you can understand how I got here. My name is Dev, before I died I was in my final year of high school, about to graduate, but unfortunately, a truck hit me. Now that you're back on track, let me reintroduce myself. My new name is Ashton, a rich kid you meet in one of the side quests in the game "2 Love a Villain". Ashton in the game is quite fond of his silky smooth blond hair, and because he isn't the tallest person out there, standing at a towering 5 feet 7, he uses his blindingly beautiful face to charm others. "2 Love a Villain" is a romance otome game with no branching routes where you play the role of a high school student trying to capture the heart of a single heroine. The twist comes in when your childhood friend becomes crazy and a lot of things happen, leading her to be imprisoned and eventually commit suicide. This miserable childhood friend is Altea; I tried many times, replayed the game repeatedly, just to see a chance I could save Altea, but inevitably failed. Now that I've reincarnated, I will save my darling Altea!

Altea was the most beautiful person you could find; her soft silver hair fell to her waist. Her cold and uncaring attitude to those other than the main character, Haru, whom she had undying loyalty. It was this very loyalty that caused her downfall.

"Sir Ashton, the madam calls you for supper," he says. Why is he asking me like I even have a choice in the matter?

"Tell her I'm on my way, Sebastian"

"As you wish, young master"

I head down the long spiralling marble staircase straight out of a movie and straight to the dining room. The dining room has a huge, fancy chandelier over a solid wood table spanning the entire room, my father, Ried Hearthstone, the CEO of the famous tech innovation company called Tressler that makes things like devices to vehicles, sitting on the very left end of the table, to his right is my mother, Talia Hearthstone, daughter of a wealthy business owner.

"Good job of getting the top marks in the academy once again, dear. I had the chefs prepare a delightful meal to celebrate your achievement."

"Thank you, Mother," I said. Once my father allowed us to eat, I picked up the cutlery farthest from the plate and began enjoying the juicy steak.

"Ashton, now that you're old enough, you can go to high school and, as I promised, I will allow you to select which high school you go to, no questions asked."

"Thank you, Father, I will pick wisely"

I lied as naturally as I breathed. It's obvious where I'm going to enrol. I'm going to go to meet my darling Altea, of course!

Once dinner had ended and my father had formally permitted me to leave, I left for my room like the wonderful son I am and crashed on my bed as soon as I got there. Ever since I got reincarnated in this world as a little infant, I was forced to take lessons on things like mannerisms and etiquette, leaving no time for me to enjoy the money I was born into. My instructors weren't kind either; they were strict and cruel, making it that much harder to adjust to high society expectations, and because of all these expectations, I haven't even been able to see my darling Altea!

I get off my bed and examine my room. It's filled with luxury, an expensive painting, a comfortable bed, and even a couch to sit on. What's even the point of all this wealth if I can't even save Altea?

Well, there's no point moping about it now because I need to tell Father which school I'm going to enrol in. Thankfully, Altea attends a school considered a little better than your average high school, so my father should allow me to attend even if it's abroad.

I make my way to the family head's office, where my father works. The family head's office is what you'd expect from a rich person's office: a fancy, probably ridiculously expensive wooden desk at the back of the room, with two couches flanking it and walls aligned with books.

"Father, I've made my decision."

"Very well, let me hear it"

"Bladsway, it's a school abroad"

"Huh, Bladsway, very well, then you will attend Bladsway."

"Thank you, Father." I head out of the room.

"Bladsway, huh…interesting choice, my son. I never thought you would pick that school, but I wish you the best of luck."

A few months later, I'm living in an apartment on my own, just a 15-minute walk away from Bladsway. Today was finally the day… and I'm already 30 minutes late.

I quickly jump into my uniform, and might I say I look amazing, wait, no, this isn't the time for that. I ran out of my apartment, trying to make it to school as quickly as possible. Since I'm 10 minutes late, the front gates are locked, but thankfully, I know how to climb a fence, a perk of being forced to learn high-society things, including climbing a ridiculously high fence if you didn't know. Hopefully, nobody saw me climbing the fence. After a not-so-comfortable landing on my behind, I gaze at the smooth ivory walls, crowned with their unnecessary grand lion statue fountain. No students in sight, probably because I'm late, but that doesn't matter right now. What does matter is that I'm finally here: Bladsway, where it all takes place. The game may have abandoned Altea, but I haven't, and I'll do whatever it takes to save Altea, even if that means being hated by the world or, even worse, Altea herself.
