Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Meeting Overseer

(Note: I've changed my writing style, so if you don't mind, please tell me how you think it compares to my old style.)

Opening my eyes, I looked around my surroundings, trying to figure out where I was, but quickly, I realized I didn't have any eyes, but it wasn't because I couldn't see.

As a matter of fact, not only did I not have eyes, I didn't have a body; I was like a '... A soul?' As I looked down at what seemed to be my soul-like body, my memory flashed through my mind, giving me knowledge of what had happened to me.

'Um, me and my friends got into a fight with some gang… I remember seeing a metal pipe, and then my vision went black… Am I dead?'

I looked down at myself once more, trying to confirm whether that was the case or not, and while I felt like it was, it was just hard to wrap my mind around the fact I was dead yet not.

'What happens now?' As I looked around, finally observing my surroundings, I noticed I was in some weird dimension that had a chaotic time dilation; not only that, but there were these rainbow-colored auras that reminded me of the Aurora Borealis, except it was happening everywhere.

'Where am I?' I said while floating through the void, searching for something or someone I could talk to; however, even after hundreds of years, I came across no one. What was even weirder was that I somehow knew all of this information right off the bat, and to top it all off, despite hundreds of years passing, it only felt like a few minutes to me. 'This is all so weird.'

Eventually, after thousands, possibly millions of years, I saw a bright white light in the distance, and since it was finally something different, I decided to fly or float towards it, arriving only after another thousand years.

When I arrived, I noticed it was a large white sphere of bright light, though to my surprise, it suddenly moved and faced me, at least I think so.

[Hello Soul, I am the Overseer of all reality in existence… I would ask how you entered my domain, but I presume you don't.] Said the large white sphere while looking at me, which unsettled me slightly, but I still responded.

'No… I think I'm dead. Am I dead?' I asked while looking at the large white sphere, or Overseer, as he calls himself, though I didn't get the response I hoped for.

[Yes. Now, let us get this over with. You've absorbed some of my remnant energy. How you did so, I do not know, but what matters is retrieving that energy, as otherwise, I will not be able to send you to another world]

The Overseer's words confused me a bit, as I had no idea what he was referring to. Go to another world? Energy? It was confusing, but if he really was the Overseer as he claimed to be, I probably shouldn't question him, though I mainly just didn't feel like thinking; after all, that's all I've been doing these past millions of years.

'Maybe I should change; that was the reason me and my friends got into that fight. I've got a short temper.' Although I thought like that, I knew I wouldn't change; I've lived twenty-plus years like that, so my personality was probably already engraved into my Soul.

[Tell me, what do you desire in exchange for my energy? Think of them as wishes or perks for your next life.] My eyes, or whatever I was seeing through, went wide when I heard him as I realized the implications of what he was getting at. Not only would I get a second chance at life, I'd be able to have perks to this second life; it wasn't something I had ever thought of before, but I already had two perks I wanted.

'I would like to have a tremendous amount of energy. I got tired during that fight and got sloppy. I would also like an enhanced physique so I can easily beat up people, resist damage, remain standing, and heal quickly… I want my entire body to be a weapon!' I said with a wicked grin, imagining how strong I'd be in my next life, fighting tens of dudes simultaneously while knocking them out with just one or two punches. It was going to be awesome.

[You have 2% of my energy remaining.] Said the Overseer, his words caused me to frown as I hadn't expected my two wishes to use so much energy, but I was satisfied with them.

'Hmm, I also would like to be sexy. Yeah, sexy.' I said while nodding. I mean, who wouldn't like to look hot?

[You have 0% energy remaining. Farewell in your next life, Soul.] Said the Overseer as he looked at me, only for me to suddenly vanish from his dimension while my mind went black as my consciousness faded.

[A fourth soul despite all my effort to reinforce my domain… I no longer care.]

Third POV

"Keep pushing, Dear! He's almost out!" Said the man anxiously as he held the woman's hand while she screamed before pushing.

A few more moments passed, only for another woman, a nurse, kneeling to stand up while tenderly holding a quiet baby in her arms.

"L-Let me s-see him." Said the woman weakly as she outstretched her arm, wishing to hold her child in her arms.

As the nurse handed the newborn to the woman, she tenderly embraced her, using her long white hair to keep him warm while he quietly slept.

"Huh, I don't remember newborns being this quiet right after birth. There isn't something wrong with him, right?" Asked the man as he looked at the nurse, who furrowed her brows before gently slapping the child's butt, causing him to suddenly open his eyes and cry.

"Yep. He's fine." Said the nurse with a faint smile as she glanced at the newborn, who quickly stopped crying, surprising them.

"He's got your white hair, Dear." Said the man as he looked at the newborn with a smile "He's got your red eyes." Said the woman as she looked at the curious newborn and stared into his red eyes.

"If I may take him, Lucy and Jack. You must rest, Lucy; you're exhausted after enduring such painful labor." Said the nurse as she outstretched her hands towards Lucy, intending to take the newborn. "J-Just let me name him." Said Lucy while glancing at the Nurse before looking at Jack, who nodded.

"So, what are we naming him?" Asked Jack as he looked at Lucy, who flashed a weak smile. "Cooper. We agreed on Daisy for a girl and Cooper for a boy." Said Lucy softly as she looked at Jack, who faintly chuckled before leaning down and kissing her.

"Cooper it is then, Dear." Said Jack as he gently scooped Cooper out of her arms before handing her to the nurse. "Be a good boy, Cooper, don't give Mrs. Sally a difficult time." Added Jack as he looked at Cooper in his arms before handing her to the nurse, who then took him out of the room.

"Dear, how do- Ahh, well, I imagine it must've been exhausting." Said Jack as he glanced at Lucy, who was fast asleep, causing him to smile softly before sitting beside the bed with her

Hearing the rooster, I rolled onto my side before waking up a few minutes later since the stupid rooster wouldn't shut up. "Ugh, shut it!" Although I yelled rather aggressively, it sounded weak, given my childish and immature voice.

Removing the covers, I leaped off the bed and stretched, cracking my knuckles and joints before putting on clothes for the day; exiting my room, I saw my Dad already awake, eating a morning snack at the table like always.

Walking to the table, I greeted him, "Hi, Dad." before sitting opposite of him, needing to practically jump onto the chair as I was still really short at five years old.

"Ready to work today, Cooper?" Dad looked at me with a faint smile while I nodded before climbing onto the table and grabbing a piece of his snack, though he just chuckled. "Not going to trim your nails?" Said Dad, his words prompting me to look at my sharp nails before shaking my head.

It's not that I didn't want to, but trimming them is so difficult, and they regrow the next day; it was honestly pointless and a waste of time. Once we finished eating, Dad stood up and exited the house while I did the same; though, unlike him, I didn't wear shoes, I felt more comfortable when my feet were connected to the ground.

Following Dad to the shed at the back of the house, he handed me a hoe while he grabbed a scythe, causing me to sigh. "The hoe again, Dad? It's so tedious." I said while swinging the hoe around in annoyance while my Dad chuckled before closing the shed.

"I know it's not fun, but it's our living; I started helping my Father with the field when I was your age, though I do admit, I was more of a nuisance than helpful, unlike you." Dad said while squatting down to my eye level and gently patting my head, causing me to pout, though I didn't argue; I just wanted a different tool; the hoe was boring.

With a sigh, I nodded before walking toward the unplowed field "Haa, fine, Dad." Once I arrived at the field, I stabbed the hoe into the ground and started walking, tilling the soil so we could plant our crops.

(Note: I had actually intended for Cooper to have infinite energy, though I decided to change it once I started writing further into the story as I realized I didn't want him to be OP.)
