Chapter 49 - Wolf and Monkey

Alaric decided to just stay still.

Running away would just gather too much attention. Plus, there would be nowhere to run to.

The only possibility would be if he was able to get on his boat and out into the ocean.

Even then, there was a strong possibility that the wolf would be able to swim, even while being hampered by the multiple heads.

The wolf still hadn't seen Alaric, so he just prayed that it wouldn't see him.

It was still in the forested section, about seventy five feet in front of him.

It was facing away from him, but it was advancing towards the clear area where it would be able to see Alaric.

Alaric decided to slowly sit down. He was still carrying the heavy bucket, and he didn't want to drop it.

Slowly sitting down, Alaric exercised his patience. He would be willing to wait however long it would take for his life to be saved.

Another sound entered the playing field.

OOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOEEEEEE

The loud screeching of a fleshmonkey entered from the other side of the forest.

"If they fight each other I can try to get away" Alaric thought.

Observing how the wolf would react, it started to snarl and go further into the clearing.

As it was distracted by a large threat, Alaric took the opportunity to head into the forest. He was wearing his pelt, so he didn't want to be confused for a member of the fleshmonkeys. To counter this, he took the pelt off and put it into his bag.

The monkeys now headed outside of the forest. There were three of them.

Two of them were just standard adults, standing tall and fat. They were the ones that were producing the screaming noise.

One of them had short hair, where the other had curly hair. They both shared the similar bony face, as well as the bright red fur.

The one in the middle looked significantly older.

It was slightly taller, standing at eight feet tall. It had a darker fur, having more of a maroon coat than a blood red. It kept the bony face.

Even with old age, fleshmonkeys remained without wrinkles or scarring with their flesh manipulating abilities. Their seniority was usually expressed through increased height.

The two parties were staring at each other. The solitary multi-headed wolf stood calmly, while the fleshmonkeys were smiling.

Alaric didn't know which party would win, neither did he care.

He waited for them to make their move. Surprisingly, the wolf took the first move.

The wolf opened its primary mouth, and emitted a blue beam. It looked like a large laser that travelled straight into the monkeys.

At this time, the monkeys mobilized, jumping over the river and starting to engage.

Alaric now started to run.

He headed into the forest partially, hoping to cut around the battle. He didn't want to be even remotely close to the crossfire, so he took a wide route.

The rat followed along with him, staying on his shoulder. For some reason, the rat repeatedly looked back at the battle. It seemed that the rat had some sort of interest in it.

Once Alaric was far enough out to where he felt safe, he took a look at the battle. The wolf was continuing to shoot beams of light out, but it was heavily injured. It was missing a leg which had been removed by one of the monkeys.

One of the younger monkeys was deceased, bleeding out on the ground.

It still seemed like it was an even fight.

Alaric was picking up his pace, being less careful about the noise he was producing. The light beams that the wolf were producing were loud, and the screeching of the monkeys matched that.

Alaric kept going through the woods for a while, until he saw his house coming up ahead. As he approached the house, the rat once again took a deliberate look back at the battle.

He slowly transitioned back to the open area between the two forests. He could still hear the fight going on, but he could only faintly see it when he turned back.

The only thing he could see were flashes of light that indicated the four-headed-wolf still being alive.

Alaric decided to bunker down in his house for the time being. He would complete his goals for the day later. The fight between the beasts had interrupted his standard course of action, so it was later than he hoped in the day. The day was becoming darker, and light would go out completely soon.

Alaric waited a couple hours in the house, and ate dinner. The soup was close to having finished its course. It would start to seriously gather bacteria soon. The house wasn't the most sanitary place in the world.

Alaric decided to wait an hour before going outside.

When he went outside, it was silent. Looking out at the river, he couldn't see any more light, so the fight was likely over. Alaric quickly lit a lantern so he could see a little. This might be a little risky with the wolves in the forest, but Alaric did need to get some things done.

He took out the two fish in the bucket and dumped them into the pool. At this point, there were three fish of varying ages within the pool.

"Need to feed them too." Alaric thought. He brought out a bottle of alcohol to give to them.

He scooped up each fish one by one and opened the bottle of alcohol for them.

Opening their mouths, he then proceeded to pour it into their mouths.

"Alright, should be good for the night." Alaric thought.

He decided to give the fish a layer of protection he would place a cloth sheet over the pool at night.

After doing that, Alaric changed into a more comfortable set of clothes and went to bed for the night.

The rat accompanied him, but not before getting a little snack out in the wilderness.
