After the instructor finished his speech, he left the area, and the 20 remaining genin were surprised. They found themselves in the middle of nowhere, now without anyone to give them directions or orders.
After a minute of silence, the genin began debating what to do next. Should they follow the teacher or return to where they started the trial?
Before any decisions could be made, a man emerged from the woods, suddenly standing in front of them.
The man introduced himself as the instructor for the second trial and warned the genin to remain quiet, for he had critical information to share.
To ensure no one disturbed him, he made it clear that if anyone spoke, they would be disqualified from the trial.
With that, the instructor began explaining the second trial.
"As you can see, we are now in the middle of a vast forest. For this second trial, you will not be allowed to leave this forest. As for the rules, each of you will receive a piece of metal, which will have a number between 1 and 10. To pass the trial, you must find another piece of metal with the same number. There are two ways to acquire this metal: one, you can take it from another team, or two, you can search through the forest, where we have hidden some pieces."
"This trial will take three days, and you can only complete it on the third day. To finish it, you must bring two identical pieces of metal. The trial will begin shortly."
As the instructor finished speaking, several men emerged from the woods. "Each team will be led by one of us to a specific location in the forest, and we'll also inform you when the trial officially starts."
Once the brief exchange was over, each team approached the ninja assigned to guide them. A few moments later, each man from the administration team jumped off in different directions, followed by their respective teams.
Team E leapt from tree to tree for a while, until their instructor stopped them and told them to wait. After a few minutes, the instructor informed them that the second trial had begun before vanishing into the forest.
Exhausted from the first trial, Zato, Iwame, and Okura decided their best course of action was to first find a suitable spot where they could set up camp and rest.
As they walked through the forest, each of them checked their pieces of metal: Zato had the number 5, Iwame had the number 2, and Okura had the number 9.
After an hour of searching, they finally found a tall, sturdy tree. Climbing it, they discovered a nice formation of branches that would provide them the cover they needed. They spent the next few hours adjusting the branches and preparing their campsite. By the time the sun began to set, their camp was ready.
Feeling accomplished, the three of them were too tired to do anything else, and they decided to rest for the night.
While Team E was making progress, Team Y was facing a much harder situation. They had lost one of their members in the first trial, leaving only Togi and Mata, with the numbers 1 and 10.
Being a team of two instead of three was a significant disadvantage, especially when facing teams of three. The best strategy for them was to either find the required number in the forest or encounter a team of two and challenge them.
On the first day, Team Y's strategy was to search through the forest and possibly find their required number.
Given that most teams would likely rest on the first day, Team Y judged that searching in the beginning would be less risky. Plus, the chances of finding a number early on were higher.
For the time being, Togi and Mata wandered through the forest, cautiously scanning their surroundings. They knew that finding another team of three was unlikely, but there was still a slim chance. So, they kept alert as they moved between the trees.
Their efforts paid off when, after several hours, they found two pieces of metal—one with the number 4 and the other with the number 6. While these numbers weren't useful to them, they hoped they might offer these pieces to Team E if they encountered them, in exchange for their own numbers.
But as it grew dark, they decided it was time to stop their search for the day. They couldn't see well, and using a light would be too risky.
Fortunately, they found a small cave. After exploring it and ensuring it was uninhabited, they decided it would make a safe shelter for the night. Togi used his Earth Release to seal the entrance with mud and stones, securing their temporary home.
Team Y and Team E had their own plans, and neither team had any intentions of fighting each other just yet. But what about the other teams? They also had their strategies and goals. While no direct confrontations had taken place on the first day, it was certain that tensions would rise in the coming days as the competition progressed.

here some info about Earth release and other stuff ( from wiki )
Earth Release encompasses any earthen material, from dirt to stone to clay, and in fact often entails changing one to another. For most Earth Release jutsu, users place their hands on the ground and use their chakra to alter its form. Less commonly, users create earth within their bodies, which they eject from their mouth.Simpler applications of Earth Release involve changing the terrain around the user. Offensively, Earth Release can be clumped together for use as a projectile or broken up to create hazards for enemies. Targets can be trapped by creating a rock dome around them or a muddy pit that they sink into. Defensively, earth can be raised around the user as a fortification against attack, Earth-Style Wall being one of the more common options. Alternatively, Earth Release users can burrow underground in order to escape harm and, indeed, combat.
Earth Release is common among ninja of Iwagakure, who make varied applications of it: Deidara's Explosive Clay is partly-earth based, meaning it can be countered in the same way as Earth Release; Ōnoki, by touching targets, can make them too heavy to move or so light that they can fly; Akatsuchi creates Rock Golems to fight alongside himself and his allies; Kitsuchi uses a mountain's worth of earth to crush targets. During the Third Shinobi World War, Obito Uchiha was believed to be killed because of an Iwa-nin's cave-in, a favourite tactic of the village's ninja.
Earth Release is naturally strong against Water Release and weak against Lightning Release; in Kakashi Retsuden, this weakness is explained to be because impurities in the earth naturally conduct electricity. In the same novel, this weakness can be negated if the Earth Release is made of quartz, but this is so difficult to do as to be thought impossible. When Earth Release is combined with other natures, certain kekkei genkai are produced: earth and water make Wood Release; earth and fire make Lava Release; earth and wind are suggested to make Magnet Release; earth and lightning are suggested to make Explosion Release; earth is suggested to have some role in Crystal Release; in Akatsuki Hiden, earth and water also make Mud Release. The combination of earth, wind, and fire produces the kekkei tōta, Dust Release.
