Chapter 2 - "Before the dawn"

Noel jolted awake, his heart felt like it was about to burst out of his chest.

His dream was so vivid that it was difficult tell apart from reality.

He was drenched in sweat, his sheets tangled from a restless night and his throat was dry.

Sitting up, he called for his nanny. Martha entered swiftly, replacing his damp bedding and setting a cup of fresh water beside him. He drank in slow gulps, but the tightness in his chest remained.

Something was off. The dream and the strange feeling in his body were too much. He needed air.

"I want to go to the koi pond," he muttered.

Martha hesitated. "At this hour? You should rest, young master."

But Noel wasn't in the mood to argue. He shot her a stubborn look, and after a moment, she sighed and gave in, following him outside.

The night air was cool, and the moon was casting silver ripples on the pond. Noel sat at the edge, elbows on his knees, gazing at the sky.

He clenched his fists. "Will Father congratulate me if I become a mage?" He asked himself.

The questions ate at him, twisting his insides.

Another wave of pressure tightened in his stomach.

He returned to his chambers when dawn was breaking. He dismissed Martha with a nod—she'd already lost enough sleep because of him.

He sat at the edge of his bed, running a hand through his damp hair. His body still felt restless, like something inside him was shifting.

It has already been ten days since his awakening Started.

He let out a sharp breath and sank into the fresh sheets. The instant his head hit the pillow, another wave surged through his core, stronger than before. Noel gritted his teeth. Whatever was happening to him, wasn't going to end soon.
