It went for his neck and he felt breath being drawn out of him. It strangled him and his face began taking a purple hue due to lack of oxygen and the veins on his face were almost popping out of his face.
The rogue was bigger than what he had ever seen. He couldn't get a clear view of its features in the dim light. It released its hand from his neck and threw him towards the floor. Kael hit his back against the wall and coughed out blood.
He didn't get a chance to regain his stance when the creature lunged at him a second time, hitting his head and making blood gush out from the wound.
"What are you?" Kael managed to ask, but the only reply he got was a deep guttural growl as the creature came closer to him.
He managed to dodge the attack and shifted to the side, while trying to mindlink his pack members.
Alexander and Chris heard the sound and rushed to the basement, but unfortunately, the door was locked.
They kept banging loudly and gathered more men who tried to pull down the heavy door. By the time the door was opened, Kael laid on the floor in a pool of his blood unconsciously. The beast was nowhere to be found.
Alexander assisted in carrying Kael into the ambulance, while Chris and the other men continued searching for the beast.
"It has left." Chris said to Alexander as he joined him in the car that was carrying the battered Kael.
"I knew it was a trap." Alexander mentioned as he hit his thighs with his fists.
"And he's healing slowly, despite being an alpha." Chris stated, knowing that they were werewolves and Kael was supposed to recover by now.
They laid him on the hospital bed, and the physician came in, examining him.
"His blood is contaminated with wolfsbane." The doctor said to Alexander and Chris.
"He may need a longer while to heal." The man added.
Alexander paced around the room worriedly, while Chris sat in a corner and tapped his feet restlessly. They couldn't wait for him to recover so that he could tell them what he saw.
"How could a rogue have used wolfsbane on him? All werewolves were repulsive to wolfsbane whether rogues or normal." Alexander asked himself as the pieces weren't making sense.
They later left the hospital, giving Kael time so that he could recover safely.
Ella was still in the pack, she had already put things in place so that her plan could be executed smoothly. She sat on the couch, casually sipping a glass of wine when the guards brought in the news that she had expected. "Kael was attacked."
"How did it happen?" She asked the men, faking surprise.
They explained everything to her, although they didn't go into detail, because they didn't know what exactly happened in the basement.
"I'll be right there." She told the men and dismissed them.
She rushed to her room, taking her time to dress up and step out of the pajamas she was wearing. She admired her body in the mirror, reveling in the fact that it felt good to be young and beautiful.
Before she could step out of the house, she received a call from the council, telling her that her presence was needed.
She didn't think twice before hurrying out of the house and heading to the place where the meetings were always held.
"Why are you going against the plan?" The leader questioned her as Ella stood in the middle of the gathering. "That wasn't what we bargained for, the alpha needs to be alive for now for the plan to be successful."
"But he started thinking about his ex. He woke up from sleep screaming her name." Ella tried to defend herself. "That's why I had to kill him."
"We need him alive!" The leader shouted and other members of the council chorused with her. "Do anything in your power to make sure he doesn't die." She told Ella.
"Yes ma." Ella responded while bowing her head.
The leader nodded and stood up from her seat. She took off the scarf on her head, revealing her bald head which was covered with numerous black marks.
"A time would come when we wouldn't need to hide anymore." She said, while laughing loudly. "The werewolves would be gone for good, and we'd finally have our revenge." She continued talking and the crowd hailed her.
She moved the cloth off her neck, and stood with a long robe covering just from underneath her arms to her feet. Her wrinkled skin was revealed, and she moved around the people in the gathering and continued talking.
"We wouldn't have to hide under these centuries old skin anymore."
The crowd cheered harder this time.
"A war is coming and we will win it."
She turned towards Ella who was definitely the youngest among all of them.
"You said he called out the name of his ex and was thinking of her." The aged woman asked.
"Yes ma."
"All you need to do is to continue the midnight spell and everything will be back to normal." The woman said to her. "Also, you need to convince him to reject her officially so the mate bond can be broken completely."
"I would do all of that." Ella bowed before the woman.
"You're one of our weapons. Don't disappoint us." The woman added before dismissing the gathering.
"I won't." Ella responded.
Each person left the coven, including the leader. Ella was left alone in the dark room which was illuminated in a circular pattern by candles.
She had to think of a way to treat the poison in Kael so that he could recover. She hated him so much and couldn't wait for the chance that he could finally kill him.
As she left the room, the candles in the room went off, leaving the entire environment in obscurity.
She left the meeting point and headed to the hospital in order to accomplish her mission. She put up a worried face as she spoke to the nurses, trying hard to behave concerned.
They sympathized with her, and directed her to the room where he was. The monitor beeped slowly and he laid on the bed with his eyes closed.
"We've given him drugs. He'd soon be okay." The doctor said to her and left her in the room.
She laughed inwardly at the doctor's words. From the damage that she had caused, there was no way that Kael could easily recover from the injury.
If she was to leave him in his state, he would go into a coma and end up dying afterwards. But she had to listen to her leader's words and couldn't leave him to die.
Ella walked to the door, searching if there was a chance that someone was looking into the room. After seeing that the coast was clear, she took out a transparent small bottle that contained yellowish liquid.
She took off the lid and forced his mouth open, entering the entire contents inside. Afterwards, Kael began jerking vigorously with the monitor beeping loudly.
The doctor rushed into the room, trying hard to control the situation.
