Sensing something, Batman narrowed his eyes at Alex, suspicion sharp in his gaze. His voice came out low and heavy with distrust as he asked, "You know something about this, don't you?"
Alex, still staring at the Boom Tube device, cursed internally. Well, I can lie... but it's Batman. He'll know immediately if I'm lying. So I guess I got nothing but to tell him what I now will ther is not harm in it also
Letting out a breath and resigning himself to fate, Alex opened his mouth. I'm not going to regret this, right...? he thought grimly.
"Well... from the 'knowledge' I've gathered from my sources," — (aka comics and DC movies, but he wasn't about to say that) — "this thing is a Boom Tube. It lets someone create portals to Apocalypse. You know, Darkside's planet. Oh, and Darkside himself is basically a walking war crime."
Batman's stare hardened."And what exactly are your 'sources'?" he asked, his voice razor sharp.
Alex just grinned behind his mask, raising both hands in an exaggerated shrug, "Well, my name is Mr. Mysterious after all. I can't reveal everything, can I?"
There was a beat of silence.
Then Batman, completely unfazed, said flatly:
"Alex Greenwater. Fourteen years old. Orphan. Living in Central City." he was saying it like it was general knowledge that anyone knows
Alex's soul left his body for a second.
"Huh? What? How is this Alex?!" Alex blurted out, the words stumbling out before he could stop them.
But almost instantly, he pulled himself back together, forcing his outside self to stay calm and unfazed — not even a flicker of shock showed through his mask. On the inside though? Pure panic.
How?! When?! How the hell did he find out so fast?! I was so careful?
"Stop with the act, Alex. I know who you are," Batman said, his voice calm but filled with absolute certainty. "The moment you appeared after our first encounter, I started putting the pieces together. It didn't take long to figure it out."
"Man, I think you got the—"Even before Alex could finish his sentence, Batman pulled a photo from his utility belt, showing a picture of Alex in his room, halfway through removing his costume. Alex's eyes widened in shock.
"That's an invasion of privacy, you know," he said, pointing at the photo with an accusing tone.
"It doesn't matter. Now, tell me what your source is," Batman said, his voice low and commanding.
"No, I won't. And you can't make me," Alex replied stubbornly, crossing his arms.
Before Batman could say anything else, a horde of Parademons attacked the group mid-flight, tearing into the plane with brutal force.
Alex and Batman's attention immediately shifted from their argument to survival.
"This conversation isn't over," Batman said sharply as he grabbed the plane's controls, trying to stabilize it.
Meanwhile, Alex clapped his hands, summoning a cursed energy knife out of thin air. With a swift flick of his wrist, he hurled the blade straight at a Parademon, piercing through its armor effortlessly.
But suddenly, the jet engine of the plane exploded, sending the aircraft into a sharp downward trajectory.
"Do you have a plan?" Alex asked, glancing at Batman, who was still gripping the controls while Para Demons continued to attack the plane as it spiraled downward.
"I always have a plan," Batman growled.
Alex braced himself against the sit. "Care to share it?"
With a swift motion, Batman flicked a switch. Smoke billowed from the plane's engine, swirling into the night sky.
"Be prepared," Batman growled, his voice low and steady.
"For what?" Alex asked, gripping the seat tightly.
"To jump."
The plane's canopy flew off, ripped away by the roaring wind. Without hesitation, Batman leaped into the darkness, his cape snapping behind him like a shadow set free.
