Kade's hair looked like a drought had passed over it, and patches of scalp gleamed under the light like a barren battlefield.

And as he halted mid stairs after spotting Adrian, he looked no less than a traumatized raccoon.

When he heard that voice, Kade's gaze snapped in her direction.

Kade descended the stairs quickly, ready to skip the steps and jump past the four steps to reach towards Ella.
