Chapter 13 - Chapter thirteen

"This...that's the pack elder" Samuel said, his eyes wide as he stared at the picture, he looked at Serena. "How did you get the picture?"

"She is my grandmother...and I've been searching for her for the past two years after she disappeared"

"Grandmother?" Sarah looked confused, "But Elder Kara never got married and I know she didn't adopt anyone"

"She suddenly disappeared over fifteen years ago and we never heard from her again even after numerous searches" Samuel said. "And she was never one who would get up and leave like that. It was as if her disappearance was a catalyst for what happened next as the alpha and his wife including the sigil bearer was killed."

Serena frowned as she sighed, this was getting even more complicated. Who was the woman she knew as her grandmother.

"This is very strange" she muttered, then she put back the picture into her jacket. "But I will keep searching until I find her or at least know where she is"

"Its strange how you met her, I mean you are not even pack. Have your parents ever told you about her history?"

"No" she shook her head, "I just know that she is my grandma, that's all. Whenever I asked, they just told me to forget it and try to assure me that she was fine wherever she was."

"Hmm" Samuel hummed in thought.

"Okay, I think this has been enough excitement for one day. We should all go to sleep, by tomorrow I'm sure you all will feel refreshed then I can get you something to eat, hmm son?" Sarah asked then before settling a kind gaze on Gaius.

"Yes we should sleep, but take Serena in first. Klaus and I need to go get our stuff from the car"

Serena blinked in realization.

"We forgot them. How are you going to do that, there are still those sentries out there, are there not?"

"Not now" Klaus stood up as he walked to the door. "They always retire for three hours before resuming again so we still have time."

Gaius saw tve worried look on her face and smiled at her to ease her.

"Don't worry, well be back in a flash"

"Alright, be safe"

"Hurry now okay"

The door close silently as the two men stepped out into the darkness, Serena watched them from the window, her eyes low and filled with worry.

"Come my dear, let me show you your room" Sarah urged.

"Thank you"

"You can sleep here, the room's never been used. You see, Samuel and I wanted to have lots of children, but Gaius was the only one we could have so the remaining rooms have been empty." She smiled as she stared at the bed, a bit sad. "I'm glad my son is back" a tear slid from her eyes to her cheek, she immediately wiped it. "Anyway, have a good rest and...don't worry about them. They will be back."

With a final smile at her she left the room leaving Serena alone. She glanced round the room noting that while it had only a bed and a single desk, it was kept clean. With a tired sigh, she sat down on the bed and ran her hand over the surface. It was smooth and springy.

"I should try sleeping" she muttered as she took off her shoes and crept under the white blanket, it was a bit chilly. Few minutes later her eyes popped wide open, she gave a frustrated sigh.

"I can't sleep" she groaned as she got up and started packing. She was too worried to sleep, she peeped out the window and saw the empty streets over the fence but still no sign of them. She didn't remember how long she was pacing but she eventually heard some sounds and rushed out of the room and ran towards the door. The knock only sounded for a few seconds before she opened it and immediately sighed in relief.

"You guys are back"

"Yeah, why aren't you asleep?" Gaius asked as he and Klaus came in with her stuffs and theirs also.

"I couldn't sleep. Let me help you"

She took one of her bags and left Gaius to her room, they placed them nearly in the closet and came out. Klaus was seated with a bottle of water in his hands.

"Next time, be careful before you open the door, you never know if it might be an enemy" he growled as he glanced at her.

"Right, I knew it was going to be you guys...although I should have thought of that" she replied guilty. She had been too excited to think of anything bad happening.

Gaius yawned as he stretched.

"I'm going to bed, you should do that too, goodnight"

"Goodnight"

"Goodnight"

They bid him as he left. Serena stood quietly as she watched him, the silence felt a bit awkward so she shifted on her feet and opened her mouth.

"Um...are you okay?"

Klaus looked up at her, a fierce glint in his eyes.

"Why do you ask?"

"Well, you seem a bit sad and...alone"

"What makes you think that?" His voice was cold.

She licked her lips as she looked away.

"I saw you...I watched you when Gaius met his parents. You...you miss your parents don't you?"

He got his defense up, he didn't like that he had been seen through. He got up and glared at her.

"Its none of your business what I feel and you wouldn't know, since you grew up with parents. Stay away from my personal business " then he left her to go to his room. She watched him a bit shocked that acted this cold but then she shrugged and silently went back to her room and got back under the blanket, in minutes that she closed her eyes, she fell asleep looking so peaceful until suddenly, her body tense and sweat popped on her forehead, veins bullied on her neck and hands as she suddenly let out a silent whimper.
