"Emma, I hate to say this, but you've been with Gilbert for six years and still haven't had a child. Who do you think is to blame?" Emily Oliver scolded her daughter sternly. "If you'd had a child, you two would share a blood bond. Even if Claire came back and revealed the truth, Gilbert would still hesitate to leave you for the sake of the child. But why has your womb been so uncooperative?"
Emma's tears flowed again. She stomped her foot in frustration.
"Mom, do you think I didn't want to? But in all these years, Gilbert has never truly touched me. How am I supposed to have a baby all by myself?"
Emily's eyes widened in shock.
She had never imagined that things between Gilbert and her daughter were like this. No wonder he still refused to marry her.
Emma cried even harder, her sobs full of sorrow.
