Chapter 11: Drat that Dratini
~Azure S. POV~
[Kanto Region, Later, Viridian Forest]
Walking our way to our destination, following the trainer's advice of where they last saw the Bulbasaur Pikachu, I steadily went where it was last sighted. However, we stopped as Pikachu's cries got my undivided attention, "Pika! Pikachu!!"
*Rustle*
Coming out of the bushes revealed a brownish-gray boulder Pokémon. It has bulging, rocky eyebrows, trapezoidal eyes with brown pupils, and a wide mouth. Its arms are muscular with five-fingered hands as it cried out, reeling its fist, "Geo!"
*Shinng*
Not needing a command, we encountered another Geodude as Pikachu rushed ahead, having Iron Tail active. One quick swing of my partner's tail, then…
*KLANG*
*BAM*
Pikachu landed the Iron Tail over its head, knocking him out as he cried out in pain, "GEODUDE!!"
*THUD*
Landing that sorry Pokémon ass down, I had Pikachu take up the front-row battles ahead, grinding down on any unfortunate Geodudes coming my way in Viridian Forest. It just goes to show these Pokémon are wild animals to a degree.
Looks like I was right to assume that Giovanni has a Pokémon army in the works so far, seeing how each one I met was different from the rest, thus far, and helped grind my Pokémon levels up in the process. Met some Geodues and Koffings in the area, if you can believe it.
If they are here, then I wonder what else could be wandering in the Viridian Forest woods, honestly. But also, the thought of extremely rare Pokémon could be found…
That alone brought a smile to my face, considering the idea. Taking a moment to rest up a bit here, I motioned Pikachu to take a small break around here in a calm tone, "Alright, Pikachu, we're taking a small break here for now. We need the rest after fighting back and forth around here."
My partner nodded his head as I handed him an Oran Berry, cheerfully eating it with a smile on his face, "Pika! Pika! Chu…"
Pikachu ate the Oran Berry we found contentedly as I slumped down, leaning on a tree. I began to check out my Arc Phone, see my Pokémon stats, and see how real-life training would work here.
|Name: Partner Pikachu
|Type: Electric
|Level: 16
|Gender: Male
|Held Item: [Light Ball]
|Ability: Lightning Rod (Hidden Ability)
|Nature: Hasty
|Moves: Thunder Shock [A], Quick Attack [A], Growl, Tail Whip, Thunder Wave, Double Team, Electro Ball, Iron Tail, Feint, Volt Tackle (IM), Wish (EM) (2 Moves to learn)
Ok, it seems like Pikachu learned the move Feint. Smiling, this could work out greatly, the more my partner progresses.
Hmm… perhaps we should do some training to see if Pikachu can learn the Partner moves to ensure better coverage and utility. But with the massive amount of Pokémon that Giovanni leaves to be bred, it would be difficult to train safely unless we find a secure area that not even the experimented Pokémon would dare to attack.
Fortunately, though, there happens to be one species that could be helpful if I prove my worth to them. Taking time to examine the area, I noticed at a distance a nest. Bingo, I just found my perfect training area.
Observing the area ahead, I smiled, seeing some Caterpie nest nearby as I held on to Pikachu, going there. The Bug Types of the Caterpie line saw me with wary looks in their eyes as I took out some Bug Type Pokémon kibble, and I spoke to them in a kind tone, "Don't mind me, we need a place to stay away from the predators for the next few days. And in exchange, I'll give you some Bug Type Pokémon food for each day here."
They looked at each other, and soon, one shot out a string from its mouth, grabbed the kibble, and ate it. The Caterpie's eyes widened, and they happily liked the food as they all agreed for me to stay the night there. It cried out, "Pie!!!"
Seeing that one Caterpie agreed, the others began to take some agreeing. The Butterfree cautiously stared at me, discussing amongst each other before nodding, allowing me to live here temporarily to train.
Whew, I'm so glad I met with a nest of Caterpies here before it truly gets dark outside. From what the Bug Catchers told me about Caterpies, they can repel predators.
Its most notable characteristic is the bright red antenna on its head, which releases a stench to repel predators. Since they allowed me free entry here for the night, I began to set up camp as Pikachu began to rest up after constantly fighting, getting the chance to relax for a change of pace.
Still, though, I'm going to need a strong team soon enough to help me, although I would rather challenge the Gym Leaders to test myself. I really can't wait to start challenging gyms myself to get my team stronger by battling them.
This is merely a side quest for me, but I need my Pokémon team to be the best there ever was and for that to work, I need to train them as much as I can while surviving this world. I also need to find a way to earn some cash and provide a living space for my Pokémon.
Finishing up some Pokémon food, I began to cook some Bug, Electric, and Dragon-Type foods at the ready for the bowls, placing them down as the Caterpie, along with some Butterfree, looked at me as I placed the bowls. They merely observed the little Caterpies taking in the moment for them to grow.
Makes sense since the Caterpie line needs to eat or train before they go into their second stage of evolution, the Metapod line. I offered a few Bug Type Pokémon kibble to the Butterfree as they fed it to the Metapods living in the trees using String Shot to keep them latched onto the tree's branches.
Pikachu woke up, smelling the air as her eyes opened with a growl in his stomach and happily lunged at the bowl, beginning to chow down as I smirked, placing the Dragon Type food on the inside of the Caterpie barrier. The only reason I cooked this out is so that I can draw out the Dratini hiding inside the Viridian Forest with the scent of food.
I doubt the experimental Pokémon here would resist the scent of a good meal because, from what I remembered, Giovanni wanted these Pokémon to be taken to the breeding grounds where the experimental Pokémon regained their primal powers.
And going by that logic the Pokémon would be in a hunt for battle or food for the survival of the fittest regaining their bearings and the Pokémon food specifically made for Dragon Types will surely bring the scent of one nearby to eat the food.
Also, in the manga, I recall that the Dratini that Red found was almost as tall as his Venasuar after a few months away before returning to Viridian City for his final Gym Badge. There might be a chance I could attract one out into the open, young and inexperienced.
While waiting for the chance for Pikachu to finish eating, I began to take out some rocks from my bag and tie them up to Pikachu's tail again, starting to train again in a calm tone, "Alright, Pikachu, time to continue practicing Iron Tail."
Nodding, Pikachu began to lift his tail again, focusing her aura power on his tail, lifting it up and down in repeated motion, trying to change it into steel-type energy, which was completely foreign to her.
But I trust him to get it done. After all, practice makes perfect.
Starting with exercise with my own body I need to train my 10-year-old body since it's only the body of a kid I need to keep myself in shape soon for the upcoming battles ahead. Or, at the very least, be physically fit.

[Kanto Region, 3 Days Later, Viridian Forest – Butterfree's Territory]
"Pikaaaa!"
*BAM*
Smiling at Pikachu, I finally see that he has decent mastery of the Iron Tail move as we moved to Surf. I saw him summon a ball of water and splashed it down summoning a wave of water.
*SPLASH*
Panting a bit, feeling tired, Pikachu smiled happily, finally getting down Surf as I walked towards him, petting his head in a kind tone, "Good job, Pikachu! I knew you could learn the Surf move-down! Congrats, partner."
Agreeing with my words, Pikachu expresses his happiness by shaking his tail, showing that he's very happy about learning the new move as he cries out, "Pi! Pikachu…"
Sighing a breath of relief, it took some time, but Pikachu finally managed to gain decent control over Water Type energy, having him practice the HM Surf as we took this chance to relax now. My partner is making great progress in maintaining his movement control.
Given that it's been 3 days, I've allowed Pikachu to get decent mastery over his moves before we move on to Surf. Allowing Pikachu to master his moves was a priority rather than learning new ones right away.
Having time to master one move rather than learn others would hinder my partner's progress. Hence, the 3 days spent training Pikachu on moves he can use freely once he gets adjusted to using them.
Still, it has been 3 days since we trained with the Dragon Type food still there, and the doubts of the Dratini around here might not be around, making me worry that I might be wasting time around these parts. Should I wait a few more days before going out, or do I just leave and have better luck next time around?
Observing the area, a bit more of the Caterpie nest I see a river nearby but there was no reaction whatsoever from there or in the forest not attracting the Pokémon I want but then again, it's all about luck in the end.
Maybe I should consider this a day closed, finding it as I need to hurry along – but then I saw a pop-up screen that made my heart freeze.
[Oh! You encountered a wild Dratini!]
*Splash*
*Thud*
Coming from the river outside the barrier came a loud cry, "Draaa…!"
Suddenly, coming out from the river stream was a reptilian Pokémon with a blue serpentine body and a white underside. It has white, three-pronged fins on the sides of its head and a white bump on its forehead, which is its horn growing. Above its round, white snout are oval, purple eyes.
Whoa… a fucking Dratini…
My eyes widened seeing that the Dratini was there in the flesh as it looked at the food bowl nearby with some actions showing to smell the food and moved forward towards the bowl hungrily. It seems like the Dratini didn't care about others' presence as it merely squirmed to the food bowl.
My eyes practically widened at this little beauty, but I had to take command as I saw Dratini finish eating up quite quickly. But it glares down at us, I respond to Pikachu in a serious tone, "Pikachu you think you have enough energy for one more battle in you?"
Pikachu merely nodded, seeing the chance to fight to hold my Poke Ball with the intent to capture Dratini. Dratini's attention was drawn to my Poke Ball as it glared at me.
Immediately, I gave out commands in a serious tone, "Pikachu, use Quick Attack!"
*Swoosh*
Dashing in a burst of speed, slamming against Dratini, striking the first move. Dratini retaliated using Wrap as the dragon tries to lunge close onto Pikachu, coming towards him. Not a chance.
Seeing this, I reacted quickly to the incoming Dratini, giving Pikachu the command of going with defense in a determined tone, "Pikachu dodge using Quick Attack, followed by an Electro Ball at the Dratini!"
Doing as commanded, avoiding the incoming Wrap attack from the dragon type, Pikachu's body becomes surrounded by yellow electricity, and multiple yellow sparks come off Pikachu's body.
*Buzzz*
All the electricity then condenses at Pikachu's tail and forms into an orange-yellow orb of electricity with sparks of yellow electricity coming off it. Pikachu then jumped into the air and flung the orb at the opponent, stunning Dratini, as my partner cried out, "Pika! Pikachuuuu!"
*Swooosh*
*BOOOM*
The Electro Ball landed as Dratini was sent flying into a nearby tree. Usually, electric-type moves wouldn't be much of an issue for the Dragon-type Pokémon since they resist it. But my Pikachu has his [Light Ball], doubling the power of his moves, it's going to hurt a lot, Dragon Type resistance or not.
*Thud*
Slumping down, Dratini eyed both of us with a glare. But then Dratini's body suddenly becomes surrounded by a light blue or red and pink aura, and it flies around in circles in the air –
Alarmed, my eyes widened, recognizing that move! Dragon Dance?!
My eyes widened at this, but soon, it didn't stop me from commanding, "Again."
*KABOOOM*
Despite Dratini being faster than Pikachu by one stage, my partner still had the speed advantage when it flung another Electro Ball, launching the Dratini into the tree again. And this time, it didn't come back up, seeing the swirls on its eyes, signaling it had fainted, much to my joy.
My eyes narrow down at the down Dragon with me having my Poke Ball at the ready, throwing it at the Dratini easily entering inside with the usual popping sound entering inside the Poke Ball. We both waited patiently for the results of the Poke Ball to be done, seeing it tilt left and right, hoping to capture the Dragon Type…
With Dratini caught inside the Poke Ball, I waited patiently as it tilted left to the right, leaving me a bit nervous about the outcome.
*Riggle*
*Niggle*
Come on, lady luck, don't fail me now...
*BON*
[All right! You caught a Dratini!]
Listening to a clicking sound being done along with a pop-up showing my successful capture, I smiled happily over the news. I went over to get Dratini's Poke Ball. I couldn't hold in my excitement anymore as I yelled out in an excited tone, "We did it, partner! We caught a Dratini!"
Pikachu was especially excited that we managed to get a new Pokémon in our team, and I won't have to worry much now. Looks like my team just got itself a new powerful member, and I couldn't be any happier for it.
Taking out my Arc Phone, I began to check it like the usual what it says about Dratini along with its stats. And I have to say I'm impressed reading this little guy's abilities to startling degrees.
*Beep*
[Dratini the Dragon Pokémon. Even the young can exceed 6.5 feet in length. It grows larger by repeatedly shedding skin. Long considered a mythical POKéMON until recently, when a small colony was found living underwater.]
|Name: Dratini (Dragon Pokémon)
|Type: Dragon
|Level: 15
|Gender: Female
|Held Item: None
|Ability: Marvel Scale (Hidden Ability)
|Nature: Adamant
|Moves: Wrap, Leer, Twister, Dragon Tail, Thunder Wave, Dragon Rage, Extreme Speed (IM), Dragon Dance (EM) (4 Moves to Learn)
Clenching Dratini's Poke Ball tightly, I grinned as I sat down with a smug grin plastered on my face. It is gonna be so lit to have a Dragonite on my team.
Not only that, this Dratini knows Extreme Speed! That's ridiculously rare for this little guy to have this early on, along with his move sets.
But as an inherited move, though? It must be because it was experimented with to learn how that move is unnatural.
Hehe… At the very least, I have a new powerhouse to add to my team with Electric and Dragon Typing currently I have I wonder what else I would find in the future. With Dratini, I could backtrack through Diglett Cave, heading towards Vermillion City to get those evolutionary stones, but after I get that badge from Brock first before anything else.
Not only that, it's also another Pokémon that can learn Surf, providing good Water-type coverage. While I wanted to get a Bulbasaur, obtaining a Dratini is the best thing that could happen, although obtaining two would be preferable.
But first, some rest is needed. After some rest, I would need to talk to Dratini, considering it might be hostile after capturing it.

A/N: Hey guys, how do you like the chapter so far? I was wondering if you guys want to see the MC rotation in an auxiliary chapter for his Pokemon team Status and Boxes?
