Chapter 14 - Ch.14 : The Roots Take Hold

Julio breathes now

Scene 1: The Fractured Return

The elevator groans as it rises from the vault—alive, pulsing with slow amber veins.

No one speaks.

Jakku limps with a blood-stained bandage across his chest. Reen's left arm hangs useless in a sling. Gift fiddles with a broken transmitter, pretending it still works.

Matthew trails behind, claws retracted, but every step crackles like flint.

Maiku doesn't look at them.

He stares at the plants blooming through the cracks in the metal floor, listening to their hum. The wind sounds like a voice. He's not sure it wasn't.

No one mentions the fight.

No one mentions the choice.

But they all know the world has changed—and so have they.

---

Scene 2: The Bloomed Approach

The light shifts. The air smells like wet moss and starlight.

Five Bloomed figures walk toward them—graceful, glowing, elegant distortions of humanity. No weapons. No threats.

One kneels before Maiku, touches his temple.

Suddenly Maiku hears everything—their names, their network, their grief, their peace.

It calls him "Fragment Alpha."

> "The Root Nexus awakens. You are invited. Join… or fade."

Machines nearby twitch. A drone sprouts vines. A rifle petals open like a sunflower. Even a dead tree pulses green.

Gift whispers:

> "They're not soldiers. They're missionaries."

Matthew growls:

> "Missionaries still burn cities."

---

Scene 3: The Council of Feeders

Far above, in the cold metal halls of the Feeder Council, panic has turned to fury.

They watch holograms of Julio:

Animals walking in unison. Machines growing leaves. Cities going quiet.

Momonato enters—calmer now, sharp eyes glowing faintly with Bloom-light. His hands, once weapons, now pulse with something deeper.

> "You're too late to stop it," he says. "But maybe not too late to own it."

He's not here to beg.

He's here to lead.

Some Feeders argue to retreat.

Others want to use Momonato—to mutate an army.

The final vote is cast: Julio will be burned. A weapon will be built. And Momonato… will be the blueprint.

---

Scene 4: Maiku and the Nexus Dream

That night, Maiku sleeps.

But his mind doesn't.

He walks through a forest of stars—trees with roots made of memory, leaves shaped like old regrets.

He sees the Root Nexus:

A garden woven through planets. Minds connected. A galaxy breathing as one.

His friends appear—Reen, Jakku, Matthew, Gift—each a Bloomed version of themselves.

Some radiant.

Some terrifying.

Then the voice returns—calm, cosmic:

> "Shape us… or be shaped."

He wakes up gasping.

Roots have formed beneath his bed. Only he sees them move.

---

Scene 5: A New Mission Forms

In the lab's central chamber, the crew circles up—tired, scarred, unsure.

No one wants to say it first.

So Maiku does.

> "It's not ending. It's beginning. And it's asking for us."

They argue. Hard.

Reen wants to warn other colonies.

Matthew wants to fight.

Jakku says maybe it's time to guide.

Gift, quiet until now, steps forward:

> "We either help shape this… or we let it shape us. But pretending it's not here?"

"That's already a choice."

Silence.

Then nods.

---

Scene 6: Jakku and Matthew's Reunion

Later, Jakku sits alone, cleaning his wounds.

Matthew approaches—awkward, silent. His claws twitch.

> "I was wrong," Matthew says. "About everything."

Jakku doesn't answer.

Until he does—arms wrapping around the dragon's massive neck.

> "Don't ever do that again."

Matthew lets out a soft rumble.

Gift enters—sees them—and joins without a word.

Reen watches from the hall. Tears fall before she even realizes it. She steps in.

The four of them hold each other—scars, blood, broken trust—and begin to mend.

---

Scene 7: Caught Red-Handed

Hours later, Reen and Gift pass through the lower lab, whispering about Maiku's dream when they hear something—faint murmuring.

They slip behind the wall.

It's Jiro.

He holds the Bloom-glass shard, whispering into it.

> "...Momonato, they're not stable. Maiku's changing too fast. The others trust him. Use that. You'll know when to strike."

Gift's hand clenches. Reen shakes her head.

Jakku and Matthew pass nearby. Gift yanks them close.

They hear it all.

Reen's voice is a blade:

> "We trusted you."

---

Final Scene: Something New Awakens

Far above, the Feeder armada floats in orbit—silent, massive, armed.

They call it Project Eclipse. A sun-forged weapon. One shot. Pure anti-organic light.

Aimed straight at Julio.

It charges.

Suddenly, across every console, every screen, every ship—something blooms.

Vines of data. Roots through code. Petals of memory.

Then a voice—echoing, everywhere.

> "No."

One word.

Not a warning. A sentence.

The Bloom is already there.

The war has begun.

To Be Continued…

Narrator :

"What happens after the world ends… and something else begins?"

"Julio breathes now. Not with lungs, but with roots. Not with machines, but with memory. Every crack in the metal. Every wound left on the crew. All of it… part of the Bloom."

"They left the vault thinking they survived. But survival is never the end—it's the beginning of change."

"Jakku limps forward, his body broken but his heart still fighting. Reen bears the cost of choice. Gift clutches the past, terrified to lose what's left of it. Matthew, a beast tamed by grief, walks with claws hidden… but not gone."

"And Maiku. The seed. The key. He does not lead because he wants to—but because the Bloom has chosen him. Not as a master. As a mirror."

"Above them, the Feeders prepare their fire, believing they still hold dominion. But dominion means nothing to the roots. The Bloom doesn't invade—it remembers. It doesn't destroy—it connects."

"Still, connection is not peace. Not always."

"Betrayal grows in the shadows. Jiro whispers into shards. The crew begins to splinter. And yet… something deeper begins to mend. A hug between enemies. A silence between friends. A mission born not from command—but from choice."

"Julio breathes now. And with every breath, the galaxy listens."

"The war has not begun with a scream—but with a whisper."

"No."

"And from that one word… everything changes.
