Chapter 4: The Maliketh's Black Blade

Yu Feng stared at the altar before him and the crumbling ruins of Farum Azula surrounding him. He muttered, "I don't know how I ended up here... but this place—it feels like it's inside my Sea of Consciousness."

After a moment of deep thought, Dugu Yao's expression shifted as realization struck him. "So this Crumbling Farum Azula… it's within my consciousness?!"

He was stunned. "But… how did it get in my mind?"

With no answers forthcoming, Yu Feng sighed. "Forget it. If I ever meet you again, Maliketh, I'll ask you myself."

But it seemed this mysterious place didn't wish for him to linger any longer. That strange invisible force surged again, pushing him away.

Just as he was being expelled from the realm, Yu Lei's voice echoed in his ears, "Feng'er, I've transferred my soul power into you. Feel it carefully—this is your second martial soul. Release it!"

As Yu Feng returned from Crumbling Farum Azula, a surging power began to stir within his right hand. It pulsed wildly, begging to be unleashed.

He didn't resist.

In an instant, his right arm shone with a dark, eerie light. A chilling aura spread across the room—thick with death, darkness, and ancient might. And then it began to condense.

A blade emerged from his hand.

Black. Massive. Jagged.

It looked forged from a light-devouring stone, its surface scorched and deep. Crimson veins glowed faintly like embers sealed in ancient magma. Faint black flames clung to its edge—not burning, but devouring. Ancient runes whispered softly on its hilt, whispering of death and forgotten time.

Maliketh's Black Blade.

The name surfaced in Yu Feng's mind the moment he laid eyes on it.

"So that's why… I couldn't find this blade in Crumbling Farum Azula. It wasn't missing—it was becoming a part of me. This is my second martial soul!"

It suddenly made sense.

High-level weapons were said to develop spirits of their own, and if Maliketh's soul had fused with the blade upon his death… then this blade wasn't just a martial soul—it was a legacy.

In Farum Azula, Maliketh had said he was just a remnant of consciousness. That fragment must have merged with this blade.

Yu Lei, watching his son awaken his second martial soul, finally spoke. "Feng'er... what kind of martial soul is this? It's terrifying. It feels like it could kill me in one slash."

"This is definitely not your mother's Seven Star Sword. Could this be a mutation, like your first martial soul?"

Yu Feng shook his head, expression calm.

"No, Father. Neither of my martial souls are mutations. They were given to me by a god at birth. These are God-given martial souls."

His parents fell silent.

Yu Lei's expression grew serious. "I've heard of such things. If a soul master reaches level 100, they can ascend to godhood. In some places, legends of gods still remain. Feng'er, are you saying… you inherited a god's legacy?"

He asked this solemnly—he, a proud member of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, whose knowledge of the ancient world was far deeper than most.

Yu Feng nodded slightly. "Yes. I inherited the legacy of the Death God—Maliketh."

He spoke confidently, though the truth was hazy even to him. About the second martial soul—Fortissax the Little Lichdragon—he had no clear answer, so he attributed both to divine providence.

He recalled dying in his previous life right after playing Elden Ring, Maliketh's lore open in front of him. Was that the reason?

"Father," he continued, "when you helped me awaken my second martial soul, my consciousness entered a strange place. There, I met a god named Maliketh…"

He crafted a tale carefully, hiding the existence of Earth, games, and his past life.

"That god had long since died. What remained was his final will. He chose me as his successor."

Hiss—his parents sucked in a cold breath.

"This Maliketh… he's a death god?" his mother asked, concerned. "Is it safe for you to inherit such a legacy?"

Yu Feng smiled. "Don't worry. He's long gone. His remnant was only waiting for someone worthy. Besides, he didn't just give me powerful martial souls—he gave me two divine inheritances."

"Two?!"

"The first—four God-given soul rings."

"What?!" Both parents cried out.

Ten-thousand-year soul rings were already rare. Hundred-thousand-year soul rings were almost mythical. But god-given ones?

Yu Feng explained calmly, "God-given soul rings are granted directly by divine power. You don't need to hunt soul beasts or risk death. The soul ring forms based on your talent and spirit—ready-made, adapted to your path."

He held up his hand, revealing four glowing orbs the size of pearls, radiating with golden and multicolored light.

Yu Lei and Chen Meilin stared, mouths agape.

"How do you absorb them?" his father asked, voice hoarse.

"Simple. Sit cross-legged and guide one to your chest. It melts into your body and forms a soul ring instantly."

His father nodded, still shaken. "And the second inheritance?"

Yu Feng grinned.

"The Death Sutra—a cultivation technique made by Maliketh himself. With it, I can open a Death Space within my dantian, storing death aura and power. I can refine it through my bones, meridians, and skin—strengthening my body and helping increase the age of my soul rings."

"It also lets me release the stored death power, either to strengthen myself or to empower attacks. And…" he paused, eyes gleaming, "it doubles my cultivation speed."

Suddenly, a black glow burst from his palm, and a tattered black scroll appeared—the Death Sutra.

"I can't return to that place for now, but I can access its contents. These were stored in that space."

He looked up at his parents, expression firm.

"Father. Mother. This cultivation method isn't exclusive to me. You can use it too. With it, our whole family will rise."
