Chapter 5
"Hiss~"
Yu Feng's parents looked at him as if he were a monster.
Forget the god-given soul ring for a moment—just the Death Sutra alone was terrifying!
The Death Sutra could open up a "Death Space" inside the dantian, allowing the user to store Death Aura or Power within it.
Not only that, it could refine Death Aura into bones, skin, and meridians, strengthening the body and greatly increasing the spirit ring's absorption capacity.
Additionally, the stored Death Power could be unleashed at once, attaching it to the user's body or weapons to boost attack power.
Most importantly, it doubled a practitioner's cultivation speed!
Just doubling the cultivation speed was enough to establish a powerful clan or family in Douluo Continent.
"Feng'er..."
Yu Lei looked at Yu Feng, overwhelmed and incoherent. He didn't even know what to say anymore.
A god-given soul ring...
The user didn't have to risk their life hunting soul beasts.
The age of the ring could be adjusted according to the user's physical strength and talent.
It appeared instantly, with skills already tailored to the soul master.
As long as your body was strong enough, you could even absorb a soul ring of terrifyingly high age!
"And..."
Yu Feng smiled faintly, his voice calm yet thrilling,
"In the future, whenever my soul power increases by 10 levels, I can return to that place again and obtain more of God Maliketh's inheritance... at Crumbling Farum Azula."
Before awakening his martial soul, Yu Feng believed his greatest advantage was the memories of his past life.
Now, after obtaining Maliketh's inheritance, his previous memories seemed insignificant!
Yu Lei and Chen Meilin tilted their heads, confused.
"Son, you said... everyone can cultivate the Death Sutra?"
Yu Feng nodded slightly, his eyes glinting.
"Yes. Father, Mother, with the Death Sutra, your cultivation speed will also double."
Yu Lei trembled slightly.
"Congratulations, Feng'er! I thought gods only existed in legends... but you... you have inherited a god's legacy!"
"My son... has the potential to become a god!"
The couple was filled with deep emotion, their eyes shimmering.
Yu Feng smiled and said,
"Father, Mother, you haven't tested my soul power yet. Let's see what level my innate soul power is."
Although he already knew, he still acted curious.
Hearing this, a round blue crystal ball appeared in Yu Lei's hand.
"Feng'er, place your hand on it. This will measure your innate soul power."
Yu Feng gently placed his hand on the ball.
Immediately, suction came from the crystal ball, drawing in his soul power.
The ball shone brightly—then shattered with a loud bang!
"What's going on?"
Yu Feng asked, pretending to be confused.
Yu Lei was stunned, but quickly pulled out another crystal ball.
"This one measures up to Level 20. Feng'er, try again!"
He now suspected that Yu Feng's innate soul power had exceeded the ordinary limit!
Yu Feng placed his hand again.
This time, the crystal ball instantly lit up with dazzling blue light, too bright to look at directly.
"Innate soul power... Level 20!"
Yu Lei gasped.
Even though he had mentally prepared himself, seeing it with his own eyes was still shocking!
Chen Meilin covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Our Feng'er... Level 20 innate soul power..."
Yu Lei, calming his excitement, explained,
"I once read in the clan library that some ancient martial souls could break the natural limits of soul power. I never believed it until now. Feng'er... your martial soul must be a God-given Martial Soul!"
Yu Feng smiled faintly but thought to himself:
(Father... you don't even know. In this world, there are two known God-level martial souls — one at Spirit Hall, and one at Sea God Island...)
He continued thinking:
(No wonder the remnant of Maliketh gave me two copies of his inheritance. It's because my soul power is already at the level of 20! To obtain the final portion, I must reach level 100...)
Dugu Yao—their Feng'er—said firmly to his parents,
"Father, Mother, I will become a God!"
Yu Lei burst out laughing.
"Hahaha! My son will truly become a god one day!"
"With Level 20 innate soul power, you can absorb your god-given soul ring immediately!"
Yu Feng shook his head.
"No, Father. From what I've read, soul rings—even those thousands of years old—can be absorbed, as long as the physical body is strong enough."
"My Death Sutra strengthens my body. I plan to cultivate it first, then absorb a soul ring of the highest age possible."
Yu Lei thought for a moment, then nodded.
"Good idea. Go to your room and start cultivating first!"
Just as Yu Feng turned to leave, he paused and said,
"Father, Mother... you should also practice the Death Sutra. It'll help you both advance to Titled Douluo faster!"
He handed them each a copy of the Death Sutra and hurried into his room.
Yu Lei and Chen Meilin smiled as they watched their son leave... but once Yu Feng disappeared, their smiles faded into seriousness.
Chen Meilin bit her lip.
"Husband... what if this Death God harms Feng'er?"
Yu Lei was silent for a moment, then said,
"If the Death God meant any harm... he wouldn't have given Feng'er such incredible gifts."
Chen Meilin fell into deep thought, and Yu Lei sighed.
"This child has always been mysterious since birth. He has secrets... but let him be. Our job is only to protect him and give him a future."
---
Inside his room, Yu Feng sat cross-legged on his bed.
He didn't rush into practicing the Death Sutra.
Instead, he first thought about his martial soul.
He already knew what his second soul would be.
His first martial soul, however... was truly astonishing.
Lichdragon Fortissax — an ancient dragon from the Elden Ring world.
Once a mighty ally of Godwyn the Golden, Fortissax fought desperately to resist death corruption after Godwyn's demise.
In doing so, Fortissax became a Lichdragon—steeped in both death and red lightning.
Now he guarded Godwyn's remains deep within the Deeproot Depths.
His scales were blackened, his flesh rotted, yet golden lightning still danced over his body—a tragic, corrupted guardian.
Thinking of this, Yu Feng summoned his martial soul.
A dragon appeared on his hand—small, about the size of a cat—wrapped in storm clouds and flashing red lightning.
Its dark scales cracked slightly, leaking faint death energy.
Golden bolts flickered along its body like living thunder.
The little dragon blinked, slowly looking around the room.
When it saw Yu Feng, it let out a cute little roar and dashed toward him at lightning speed!
It jumped onto Yu Feng's shoulder and began to happily lick his face.
"Hahaha, okay okay! Little guy, stop licking me!"
Yu Feng laughed heartily, gently lifting the dragon off his shoulder and holding it to his chest.
The little dragon stared at him cutely.
Man and dragon stared at each other for a long moment.
Yu Feng smiled and asked,
"Little guy, do you have any memories of before? Do you know how you got here?"
The little dragon tilted its head in confusion, then shook its head and growled softly — meaning no.
Yu Feng sighed.
Probably because he was its master, he could understand the dragon's meaning instinctively.
He thought for a while, then chuckled.
"Forget it for now. We'll figure it out in the future."
Looking at the dragon in his arms, he said warmly,
"I can't keep calling you 'little guy' forever. From now on, your name will be Fortissax."
Hearing this, the little dragon excitedly nodded and licked his face again.
"Haha! Okay okay! No more licking!"
Yu Feng gently pushed it away, rubbing its head affectionately.
"Alright, Fortissax... from now on, we're partners.
We'll carve our legend across the Douluo Continent together!"
Fortissax roared softly and nodded again, his little body trembling with excitement.
Yu Feng laughed happily.
