"How the Black-furred Rats emerged remains unknown. All that is known is that they broke out at Qingcheng Mountain and are spreading outwards. Their reproduction is rather bizarre: males and females mate in underground tunnels, with a very short gestation period. In just over ten days, one litter can be born, and in another ten days, the next. Litters range from as few as five to six rats to over a dozen, making them seem like a species solely designed for reproduction."
