Chapter 33 - THE HOUSE IN THE SLUMS

Joshua was a boy born in the outskirts of Lagos, or to put it more bluntly a boy from the slums as others would call it.

He didn't have a particularly special background aside from the fact that his family was still relatively richer compared to the others in the slums.

As a formerly successful businessman, even though his business was currently bankrupt his father still had enough to start a little business and live for the rest of their lives.

The only reason why they relocated to the slums was to keep out of sight and lay low but Joshua was still able to live decently well and attend school.

He was very smart since a young age and his father had doted on him to take over his business but everything went swirling down when his father's business rivals plotted against him and took him down.

Ever since then, his dream was to become powerful, become powerful enough to take down all the obstacles in his way and to revive his family's glory, powerful enough to remain unshakeable despite all the raging storms.

But the biggest problem in his dream was how to achieve it, as the only son of a former business champion his father's business rivals also kept a close eye on him and made sure everything he did didn't go his way.

Even the school award he was supposed to win was passed over him, he had started giving up hope when he started feeling strange changes in his body.

He was surprised to discover that he had suddenly grown much stronger compared to before and he had also become much smarter and sharper, his brains becoming clearer.

Then the thought came to him 'perhaps this is God being merciful to me and my family and giving me this ability as a form of pity'

But the one thing he knew was that he would cherish all the advantages, opportunities and powers given to him in order to fulfill his dying dream.

The day he was returning home from school and saw a weird and ugly guy who was trying to be friendly was perhaps the most frightening day for him.

He was not frightened because of his appearance but because he could feel a dreadful feeling from him that told him to stay far away.

When he tried to shake off the guy's from his shoulder he was shocked to discover that even with his immense strength he couldn't even shake a inch of the strange man.

It was then he discovered the bitter truth "I am not the only special one in the world, perhaps I am just lucky, that's all. Luck"

He left hurriedly but later regretted since he should have at least gotten his contact before leaving since he might have some advises to give him about himself.

He was walking home on another day, taking the same path he had taken like before hoping that he would perhaps meet the strange man that he met the other day since he at least seemed nice.

After reaching the suburbs and still not finding any signs of him again he resigned himself to his fate.

"God gives everyone the chance but it remains in man's hand whether to make use of it or not and I didn't use mine." He sighed then walked ahead.

He had almost reached his house when he saw three men walking in his direction, he thought they were just passing by they suddenly held him with so much force he couldn't muster any ounce of strength to resist and could only watch as he was bundled up and taken away.

When David saw the three men carrying the young boy along he didn't apprehend them immediately and only followed behind till they crossed the suburbs and reached the far end where there were rarely people.

There was a house which was pretty decent when considering the desolate and filthy environments then they entered the house.

The thought that came to his mind was that they were either kidnappers or taking young mutants to grow some sort of force just like Michael, that is if they had a way to detect them though.

He quickly followed behind them and when they entered he waited for a while then opened the door and sneaked after them.

He saw them walk into a room then fiddle around for a while before the wall opened into an elevator and then they entered and left.

'It seems I was indeed right, this must be some sort of secret base for them but this isn't of my concern so I won't stick my nose to it.' he thought then turned around and left the house.

'I should just lay low even more and stop sticking my nose into things that don't concern me from now on' he thought while nodding his head and left.
